Kids Kinetics Opens Gymnastics and Ballet Gym for Kids on Fort Avenue in Federal Hill

Kids Kinetics recently opened in a 3,800 sq. ft. lower-level space at 301 E. Fort Ave. in Riverside/Federal Hill. The space, which is housed in a former hospital building along with Childtime, was previously the home of Fort Ave. Fitness.

Kids Kinetics, which is owned by Alex Cummings and Jessica Wilson, offers dance and gymnastics classes for kids of all ages. Cummings has a background in gymnastics, competing in the sport since the age of six, and is now the head coach of a recreational gymnastics program in Baltimore County. Cummings has been teaching Kids Kinetics with different partners in the Fort Ave. building since August 2016 and is now launching the program in its own space with Wilson.

Wilson, who was born and raised in South Baltimore, got her start in ballet dancing at the Locust Point Recreation Center. She danced for several different ballet programs in the Baltimore area and studied dance at Anne Arundel Community College. She began teaching at the age of 23 and is currently an instructor and choreographer at a studio in Anne Arundel County.

“I’m excited to bring dance back to South Baltimore,” Wilson told SouthBMore.com.

Kids Kinetics offers dance and gymnastics classes for kids ages 2 to 10, and an acrobatic program for kids 10 and older. It also offers an adult contemporary class and open gym sessions, which include the use of equipment and a bouncy castle. Dance and gymnastics sessions are $50 for four classes over the course of four weeks. Kid Kinetics also offers drop-in classes for $15. Classes are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening and schedules will vary throughout the year.

Kids Kinetics is also available for birthday parties and will host a one-week summer camp in July.

“We are here because of all the young families in South Baltimore,” said Wilson. “We know it’s hard to travel to all of the surrounding counties for extra-curricular activities like dance and gymnastics.”

Wilson also noted that Kids Kinetics program will be more affordable than many other programs in the surrounding area.

Wilson told SouthBMore.com that they are looking to expand their programming in the future and would like to add adult classes for former dancers and gymnasts, as well as classes for parents and their babies under 12 months. She is also hoping to eventually have a dance company at Kids Kinetics.
