Restaurant Updates: Minnow Opens at 2 East Wells, DiPasquale’s Sets HarborView Opening Date

South Baltimore will officially have two new restaurants soon as Minnow at 2 East Wells in South Baltimore opens tonight at 5pm and DiPasquale’s at HarborView in Federal Hill announced a targeted opening date of May 10th, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Minnow is from La Cuchara owners Ben Lefenfeld, his wife Amy Lefenfeld, and his brother Jake Lefenfeld. The 3,723 sq. ft. restaurant is described as a casual neighborhood restaurant that will focus on fresh, in-season seafood. The new business is a homecoming for Jake Lefenfeld who lives in the neighborhood and previously worked at Don’t Know and Blue Agave before opening La Cuchara.

Minnow will seat approximately 130 guests total between its bar room, dining room, and a bar and communal table in its open kitchen. The design includes concrete floors; steel, reclaimed wood, concrete, and tile accents; and floor-to-ceiling windows facing Wells St. The walls have been decorated with fishing lures and new signage has been added to the exterior.  The exterior windows also now feature artwork of minnows swimming.

Ben Lefenfeld told SouthBMore.com earlier this year the menu will focus on approachable, affordable, and sustainable seafood, and that it will change regularly based on what’s in season. When in season, the team will bring in scallops from Ocean City’s Elephant Trunk, crabs from the Chesapeake, and Caroline White Shrimp from North Carolina. Fish in the rotation will include tuna, sardines, sword fish, turbo, rainbow trout, rockfish, and more. Lobster and oyster dishes will also rotate through at Minnow.

Non-seafood items will include a veggie burger and a crispy chicken sandwich on a stone cornmeal waffle.

The bar at Minnow will have five beer taps, as well as cans and bottles; 50 to 100 bottles of wine with 10 to 12 available each day by the glass; and what Ben Lefenfeld described as a “fun and lighthearted” cocktail menu including beer and shot specials. Jake Lefenfeld will lead the bar program.

The bar has four televisions where the O’s and Ravens games will be played.

Minnow will open every day at 5pm with happy hour from 5pm to 7pm.

2 East Wells includes 153 apartments, a 260-car parking garage with 29 spaces dedicated to retail, and an additional 2,141 sq. ft. retail space that will be the future home of Baltimore Soup Company.

DiPasquale’s has been open for more than 100 years in Highlandtown and this will be its second time opening a location in Federal Hill, this time at a 2,000 sq. ft. space at 500 HarborView Dr. The former location was open at 6 W. Cross St., the current home of SoBo Café, in the mid-1990s.

The HarborView marketplace and restaurant will carry less Italian groceries than its Highlandtown counterpart, but it will include a full deli counter; brick oven for pizzas; bakery with breads, cookies, and desserts; and, dining area like the original. It will also have a full espresso bar and will offer breakfast in the morning.

DiPasquale’s makes many items in-house including sausage, fresh mozzarella, pasta sauce, lasagna, porketta, cannoli cream, arancini, bread, focaccia, pizza dough, and more.

The HarborView location will have a full liquor license allowing for on- and off-site sales. Alcohol, as well as its full menu, will be available for delivery.

DiPasquale’s will seat about 40 inside, plus have outdoor seating and a bar that seats about eight. It will be open daily from 8am to 7pm but may consider longer hours in the future. DiPasquale’s will have dedicated parking at HarborView for its customers.

Along with two appearances on Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives, DiPasquale’s has been featured on the TV shows Lidia’s Italy in America and Best of Baltimore. It has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp and a 4.7-star rating on Facebook. It has also won Best of Baltimore awards with City Paper and Baltimore Magazine.
