Delia Foley’s owners Andrew Carter and Jesse Selke are the new owners of Smaltimore at 2522 Fait Ave. in Canton. The team took over the restaurant on May 1st after purchasing the business from Jason Zink, a Pigtown resident and the former owner of No Idea Tavern and Don’t Know Tavern in South Baltimore. Zink is also a partner at Abbey Burger Fells Point.
“We were looking for another opportunity and some potential locations for a second Delia Foley’s,” said Carter, who mentioned that he and Selke were specifically targeting the Canton neighborhood. “Then Jason reached out to us about Smaltimore which is one of my favorite bars to go to in Canton.”
Zink opened Smaltimore four years ago.
Carter and Selke plan on keeping Smaltimore’s name and concept in place. The restaurant includes 48 draft lines with a beer exchange pricing system, focuses on burgers and sushi, and is home to fan clubs for Penn State, Liverpool Football Club, and the New York Giants.
Carter told SouthBMore.com that everything will stay the same through the summer, but they may consider making some updates in the future including the possibility of adding outdoor seating.
The staff will also remain the same including David “Murph” Murphy who has worked with Zink since he opened No Idea 12 years ago. Craig Fields will continue to run the kitchen.
Carter and Selke told SouthBMore.com that business at Delia Foley’s in Federal Hill is going really well, and that this led them to explore additional opportunities. Carter is a Federal Hill resident and Selk resides in Bel Air.
Zink, who still owns the Smaltimore building and its two apartments, told SouthBMore.com it was time to “move on.”
“I love Canton. The community’s support allowed me to purchase the building,” he said. “I have nothing but great things to say about Canton, the neighborhood association, the clientele, and the neighbors.”
“We just had our best year and I’m leaving on top. I’m leaving the place in good hands and they will do a fantastic job. They’ll bring the energy the place needs and deserves,” Zink continued.
Zink told SouthBMore.com he’ll use the extra free time for “much needed relaxation,” but noted he’ll start looking for his fifth restaurant project at some point in 2018. “I’m looking for something with a lot of outside space for my next project. Probably the county and possibly near the water,” he said, adding that he’ll continue to focus on concepts with a lot of craft beers on tap.
