South Baltimore Business Roundup

The Baltimore Sun’s ‘Baltimore’s Best Food and Drinks 2020’ Winners from South Baltimore 

The Baltimore Sun released its ‘Baltimore’s Best Food and Drinks 2020’ and quite a few winners have locations in South Baltimore.

The only Sun Editorial Board’s pick from South Baltimore was Miss Shirley’s, which has an Inner Harbor location along with the original Roland Park location and a restaurant in Annapolis. Miss Shirley’s won Best Pancakes. From the article:

From its fluffy buttermilk flapjacks to the decadent cinnamon danish ones [with drizzly cream cheese icing,] the 15-year-old restaurant has made breakfast its the go-to meal. At one of three locations (Roland Park, Inner Harbor and Annapolis), one can savor a tall stack (four 8-inch pancakes) filled with fresh fruit and drenched with same. Or raspberries and white chocolate. Or bananas and chocolate chips.

Distillery – Sagamore Spirit Distillery (Port Covington)

Juice – Pure Raw Juice (original location is in Federal Hill, it recently opened a Riverside/Locust Point location at A2, and it has additional  locations in Hampden, Towson, and Bel Air)

Mediterranean – Baba’s Mediterranean Kitchen (Riverside)

Outdoor dining – Little Havana (Federal Hill)

Pizza – Pizza di Joey (Cross Street Market and a food truck)

Ramen – Mi & Yu Noodle Bar (original location in Federal Hill with additional locations in Mount Vernon, Hampden, and Arlington)

Dakari’s Soul Food Opens in Brooklyn

Dakari’s Soul Food restaurant has opened at 3720 S. Hanover St. in Brooklyn. The restaurant space was the former home of Panda Chinese & American Food. About Dakari’s from its website:

Topknot Opens on Fort Ave. 

Hair Salon Topknot has opened at 525 E. Fort Ave. in Riverside. Topknot has stylists Katherine Maguire and Heather Sampson. The retail space was the former home of salon Stellar B.

Richie’s Barber Shop Opens in Federal Hill 

Richie’s Barber Shop has opened at 1043 S. Hanover St. in Federal Hill. The retail space was vacant in recent years. Richie’s also has a location in Upper Fell’s Point.

Machado’s Mini Mart Celebrates a Milestone 

Machado’s Mini Mart, the corner store at 201 E. Heath St. that serves groceries, breakfast, subs, ice cream, and snowballs, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary in Riverside. Machado’s is currently open though its service window.
