‘Cans Filling Station’ Opens at Cross Street Market

The new Cans Filling Station bar has opened at the newly-renovated Cross Street Market in Federal Hill. Cans is owned by Will Glass and is a sister bar to Taps Fill Station that has locations at Mount Vernon Marketplace in Baltimore and The Bourse in Philadelphia.

Cans is the first new stall since Cross Street Market reopened to use the market’s newly-acquired liquor license. Cans serves beer, wine, cider, mead, kombucha, and cold brew coffee. Five additional stalls will also serve alcohol at Cross Street Market.

Cans is still in a soft opening and will have its bar fully stocked as the week progresses. It has 20 taps that are attached to Cans’ 15 ft. by 15 ft. walk-in cooler. There will be 10 taps for craft beer, two will serve white wine, two will serve red wine, two will serve kombucha, and the rest will serve ciders and meads. Glass said the taps’ close proximity to the cooler will lead to the “freshest draft products.”

Cans’ fridges will be filled with cans of hard-to-find craft beers, popular macro brews, and old-school and harder-to-find macro brews like Stroh’s. Can will have $2 and $3 cans of beer available daily and will have a Monday to Friday happy hour.

Glass said Cans will soon serve Wild Kombucha’s CBD-infused kombucha. He said the drink does not have alcohol or THC, but will have a calming effect.

Cans will sell liter aluminum cans so that draft offerings can be taken to go. There is a $2 discount for customers who bring their can back to be refilled. Cans will also have a Can Club where members get two exclusive beer cans every month.

Glass worked with All New Studios on the bar design. It includes granite countertops, metal walls, pink and green colors, four televisions, and custom fabricated bars seats that wiggle. Glass said they are promoting the hashtag #getyourwiggleonbmore. “Have a drink and wiggle with us and take the tension out,” said Glass.

Glass said the televisions will play sports and movies, as well as show photographs and artwork.

Customers of Cross Street Market are welcome to bring food and drinks from other vendors to the bar seats at Cans and they can take drinks from Cans throughout the market. Cans does not serve food but is surrounded by food vendors. It is also adjacent to common seating areas.

Glass moved to Baltimore seven years ago and first had his idea for the Taps concept after visiting Cross Street Market. He launched Taps at Mount Vernon Marketplace when it opened in 2015. As the Cross Street Market began redevelopment in recent years, he jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the new market.

“Cross Street Market is already in a great neighborhood and historic area, and close to the ballparks and the Inner Harbor, but just needed to be drastically updated,” said Glass.

Cans is currently open Monday to Thursday from 12pm to 10pm, Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 1130pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 6pm.

“I’m looking forward to serving everybody and being a part of the neighborhood,” said Glass.
