Nine Tenants Announced for Redeveloped Cross Street Market

Caves Valley Partners (CVP) has started to announce both new and returning merchants for Cross Street Market on CrossStMarket.com, CVP’s website for the redevelopment project. CVP took over the 31,800 sq. ft. market in Federal Hill from Baltimore Public Market Corporation (BPMC) in January. Cana Development is handling leasing for CVP as the team continues conversations with new and existing merchants.

All the existing merchants, with the exception of Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood, had their leases extended through Labor Day as CVP works through planning and predevelopment for the project. The merchants were previously on month-to-month leases with BPMC. Several merchants have signed on for an additional two years after the redevelopment begins. These tenants include Steve’s Lunch, Fenwick Choice Meats, Kwon’s Fresh Produce, and The Pretzel Twist.

Sections of the market will remain open during the renovation and final locations for these businesses have not been determined.

Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood is the only merchant with a long-term lease at the market. Nick’s has 15 months left on its lease with a five-year extension option.

The Maryland General Assembly District 46 Representatives have secured $200,000 in capital funding from the State for existing merchants to improve their retail spaces in the redeveloped market.

In a post on CrossStMarket.com, CVP said, “The redevelopment team will work with all merchants, including Nick’s, to improve and upgrade the conditions of their stalls and the Market as a whole.”

CVP has also announced several new merchants for the redeveloped market. This includes Annapolis-based Ceremony Coffee Roasters, which also has a location in Mount Vernon and which will be opening a location in Harbor Point. The market will not have a Starbucks, which was once discussed as a possibility.

Smoke BBQ, a winner of Baltimore Magazine’s Best BBQ with its first location in Hunt Valley, will open a stall at the market. Smoke BBQ is owned and operated by two former South Baltimore residents, Josh White and Keith Thompson.

Sarah Simington, who owns Federal Hill’s Blue Moon Too, will open a stall selling quirky home goods store, according to CVP.

DC-based Cucina Al Volo, which started at Union Market in Washington, DC, is opening a stall at Cross Street Market that will sell pastas with locally-sourced ingredients. It will sell prepared pasta dishes for dine-in or carryout, as well as uncooked items for home preparation.

CVP also provided the following update in a post on CrossStMarket.com: “We will continue to round out our roster of existing and new market tenants to create the ultimate Baltimore fresh food shopping and dining experience. We anticipate adding multiple unique Asian concepts, the fresh bakery that SoBo residents have wanted for years, a local doughnut concept, and multiple other must-have market tenants. Stay tuned for more good news in the weeks and months ahead.”

A public hearing will be held this Friday for a market-wide liquor license for the Cross Street Market.
