Royal Farms Closes for Renovations
The Royal Farms at 1440 Key Hwy. will undergo a renovation that is expected to take more than three months. During this time, the store will be closed but customers will still be able to purchase gas and cigarettes at an on-site kiosk.
Large Property in South Baltimore Up for Sale
The Baltimore Business Journal is reporting 1901 Light St. has been listed for sale. The five-story property, as well as the attached 101 Wells apartment development, is part of the historic former National Enameling and Stamping Company. From the article:
The 1.7-acre property, built in the early 1900s, has the potential for 135 units, according to a marketing brochure from Transwestern. The listing includes several adjacent buildings.
An asking price has not been put on the property.
1901 Light is home to Guardian Moving & Storage Co. Inc. Officials with the company could not be reached on Monday morning. Transwestern brokers declined to comment.
Redevelopment of the building could add to the growing apartment market by Wells St. which already includes 101 Wells, 1901 South Charles, and 2 East Wells.
Bao Now Available at Mi & Yu
Mi & Yu Noodle Bar at 1016 S. Charles St. has expanded its menu. Starting today, along with its popular noodle bowls, Mi & Yu is offering Bao (Chinese steam bun sandwiches) and duck fat fries. Customers can choose from six different proteins and two different aiolis.
New Urban Farm in Southwest Baltimore
SAFE Alternative Foundation for Education, Inc. and Pigtown Food for Thought (PFFT) are partnering to refurbish an urban farm. From SAFE:
We are thrilled to announce that SAFE has partnered with Pigtown Food for Thought (PFFT) to refurbish a deteriorating “hoop house”. On Saturday, March 12th SAFE and PFFT is hosting a cleanup of the site located on the corner of West Lexington St and N. Carrollton Ave. The objective for the day is to remove all weeds, debris, plant flowers and seeds, replacing the plastic tarp on the hoop house, and get it as close to operational as possible.
As a component of SAFE’s vocational education curriculum, the hoop house will be used as a garden/urban farm where the youth will go for hands on experience planting, growing, and harvesting fruits and vegetables. There will also be limited communal space at the hoop house for residents interested in growing their personal produce.
Last year SAFE opened its SAFE Center at 1501 W. Lexington St.
PFFT operates multiple gardens in Pigtown.
