Mexican/Korean-fusion restaurant Pop Tacos will relocate from its space in Cross Street Market to a storefront at 17 E. Cross St. The property was formerly an M&T Bank before it was renovated and subdivided into two spaces. Pop Tacos will take over the one space formerly occupied by Stuggy’s, and most recently Hot Spot, and will neighbor The Local Fry, which occupies the second space. Pop Tacos will be closing in the Cross Street Market on March 26th and hopes to reopen in its new 1,000 sq. ft. space by the June timeframe.
With the move, owners and husband and wife duo Jai and Jung Song will be able to create their own hours and expand their operations. With the city-owned Cross Street Market closing everyday at 6pm, the Song’s plan on being open now at their new space every day from 11am to 9pm with possible late night hours on the weekends.
Jai Song described their new kitchen as much larger and noted they are looking forward to expanding their menu and catering capabilities. Pop Tacos currently serves Mexican favorites like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and bowls with a Korean twist using Korean marinades on the meats and Korean rice, in addition to serving up Korean dishes as specials. Jung Song, the chef of Pop Tacos, is looking forward to adding many new dishes that utilize her experience in Korean, as well as Japanese, cuisine.
New permanent dishes to the menu will include bibimbap, also known as Korean rice bowls, in which customers will be able to either pick their ingredients or choose set combinations. At the new location, the Song’s will also be making several different types of rice and adding bulgogi, cilantro noodle soup, and ramen to the menu. Pop Tacos will additionally be adding delivery and online ordering.
Jai Song told SouthBMore.com they look forward to continue to serve their regulars who have supported them for the past 8 years, while gaining new customers with the added exposure of having their own storefront. He also noted that he is excited to remain in a vibrant area that has continually increased the number of restaurants and eateries over the years.
