Sugar Boat Goods Opens in Federal Hill

Sugar Boat Goods has opened at 910 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill. The first-floor retail space was formerly occupied by Plantacea before it relocated within Federal Hill.

Sugar Boat Goods is owned by retired child abuse lawyer and Locust Point resident Joyce Lombardi. Sugar Boat Goods sells “thoughtful real life goods and gifts” that are sustainable and made locally. Lombardi said all items sold at her store are from artists and crafters within 100 miles of Baltimore.

“I like ships, but not shipping,” said Lombardi.

Lombardi moved to Locust Point to be close to the water and named her store after the sugar boats that arrive at the Domino Sugar facility.

Items at Sugar Boat Goods include artist prints, vegan make-up, recycled glass necklaces, cutting boards, tabletop home goods, bar supplies, travel gear, recycled billboard tote bags, kids toys, baby clothes, vegan booties, and stuffed animals. Most of the items in the store will be new, but some will be upcycled.

“A lot of people became makers during the pandemic,” said Lombardi.

The shop has tables made by AR Woodworking that will be used for workshops where customers can hand-craft their own gifts.

Lombardi, who has been working on getting Sugar Boat Goods off the ground for about 10 months, has envisioned this concept for many years. She zeroed in on Federal Hill for her shop location and looks forward to adding to the growing retail options on Charles St.

Once Lombardi selected the storefront, she renovated the space by installing new floors, moving some walls, and painting.

Sugar Boat Goods is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sundays from 11am to 4pm.
