Anthem House Mural Finished

The new mural at Anthem House facing Key Hwy. has been completed. The mural pays homage to notable Baltimoreans Edgar Allen Poe, Francis Scott Key, and Billie Holiday.

“They are painted in black and white while colorful Maryland and American flags provide contrasting background imagery,” the team at Anthem House told SouthBMore.com. “There are hexagons throughout this mural which are each made up of four pentagrams. These add movement and modernity to the piece, as well as provide a subtle nod to the nearby Fort McHenry, which is also in the shape of a pentagram.”

South Baltimore Contractor to Build Guinness Brewery

Carroll-Camden’s Plano-Coudon has been selected by Diageo Beer Co. USA to build the new $50-million Guinness Brewery in Relay in South Baltimore County. From Baltimore Business Journal:

Plano-Coudon was formed in 1999 by two former Virginia Tech engineering students, Brett Plano and Ryan Coudon. In a statement Tuesday, Ryan Coudon said the company had aggressively pursued the Guinness job over the past few months.

“I literally drive past that site on my way to and from work every day. I did not want to drive past another contractor’s sign every day while this facility was built,” Ryan Coudon said.

The new brewery is expected to open next summer and is expected to create 70 jobs.

Betamore Opens at City Garage

Betamore has opened its new 8,000 sq. ft. facility in the Main Street Area of City Garage. From BuildPortCovington.com:

Betamore, the award-winning co-working space and entrepreneurial incubator, has opened a new, 8,000-square-foot location at City Garage in Port Covington nearly double the size of its original Federal Hill location. Local entrepreneurs will have the option to hold memberships at either location or opt for a joint membership which provides access to both sites. Betamore’s expansion into City Garage is part of its broader push to increase its educational programming and workforce development efforts.

Sagamore Ventures first partnered with Betamore in October of 2015 to co-host Betamore’s annual celebration of innovators in Baltimore, Beta City, in conjunction with the opening of City Garage. Since then, both groups have been exploring ways to collaborate.

“The addition of Betamore to City Garage brings an exciting complement to the trade-skills training currently offered at The Foundery,” said Demian Costa, Managing Partner of Sagamore Ventures. “Being able to learn welding and coding under one roof gives us the capability to prepare our local workforce to participate in the jobs of the future.”

Since opening at City Garage, Betamore has attracted 20 new members, representing seven startups. To learn more about Betamore, visit https://betamore.com.
