Home on the Harbor now Design Distillery, Opens New Key Hwy. Showroom

Home on the Harbor has completed its relocation within the recently redeveloped 97,000 sq. ft. former Syrup KING Molasses complex at 1414 Key Hwy. and has changed its name to Design Distillery. The new two-story showroom is 9,500 sq. ft. and takes the place of Charm City Networks, which relocated within the complex, as well as a former storage area. The old Home on the Harbor space was 4,400 sq. ft. and is now the location of Race Pace Cycles which also relocated within the complex to make way for Planit and Order & Chaos Coffee.

Home on the Harbor, which opened 14 years ago on Charles St. in Federal Hill, focuses on modern furniture, home décor, and interior design. Today, Design Distillery offers eight core lines of furniture plus home accessories. Brands include Knoll, Blu Dot, Gus Modern, American Leather, and Normann Coppenhagen. It is also the only store in the country to have a “shop-in-shop” for French outdoor furniture manufacturer Fermob. Most items can be custom ordered to meet clients’ color preferences and design needs.

Owner Karen Graveline told SouthBMore.com they focus on pieces that fit the tight constraints of city living, although noting that the style of the furniture can fit anything from a Victorian home to a modern condominium. She described prices as near the middle to higher end of the market.

The front entrance area to Design Distillery is highlighted by home decor and a refurbished skeeball machine. “Who doesn’t love skeeball,” said Graveline. “We are just looking to add some fun to the shopping experience.”

The first floor also features a large showroom and a social kitchen where they host events and meet with clients, as well an office workspace.

The lower level features the Fermob shop and an outlet area with discounted items.

“Everyone has an inner designer in them,” said Graveline. “Our greatest achievement is inspiring customers to confidently select pieces that they’ll love for a lifetime.”

“We are on a mission to find customers what they need to realize their ultimate vision. As we guide them towards pieces that match their unique style and personality, we hope to transform how people view design and share our passion with everyone who encounters our shop,” said Seth Kaiser, lead designer at Design Distillery.

Design Distillery also does staging for local real estate developments which have included 1111 Light Street and Silo Point. Along with residential units, they have worked with offices and local restaurants on modern designs.

Design Distillery is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11am to 6pm and Friday through Sunday from 11am to 5pm. It will be hosting a grand reopening this weekend with giveaways.

Design Distillery is currently adding to its five-person workforce and partners with Mike’s Moving and Storage on delivery.
