Federal Hill’s Betamore, a “co-working space, incubator and campus for technology and entrepreneurship,” announced last week it would open a second location at Port Covington in City Garage. It is partnering on the new space with Sagamore Ventures, the venture capital subsidiary of Kevin Plank’s Plank Industries which owns and operates City Garage, the 133,000 sq. ft. facility described as “a hub for manufacturing, innovation and entrepreneurship.”
Betamore has an 8,000 sq. ft. space at 1111 Light Street and its new space will be an 8,000 sq. ft. build-out in the Main Street section of City Garage. It will have 55 to 65 new desks, private offices, and two conference rooms. The open Main Street area, which is currently used for events, will still have space for 150-person events. Construction will begin in January and is expected to take six months.
Sagamore Ventures and Betamore have previously worked together to organize Beta City, a large tech event hosted in City Garage for the past two years. The two South Baltimore companies will partner on initiatives including increased educational programming in City Garage, workforce development efforts, and the build-out of the co-working space. Betamore will also collaborate with fellow City Garage tenant and maker space The Foundery to develop programming around all STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities.
“In addition to resources such as mentorship, skills-based education, and flexible term office space, Betamore provides its members with direct access to a knowledge pipeline of leaders and businesses that provide real world solutions to their growing business issues,” said Betamore CEO Jen Meyer in a press release. “By expanding to City Garage, Betamore will be able to offer entrepreneurs even more opportunities to help them launch and build successful businesses.”
Betamore noted that people will now be able to learn to code and weld under one roof.

Betamore has been home to 120-plus companies that have collectively raised more than $57M in venture capital. Its education and event offerings have served more than 16,000 attendees and 160-plus academy graduates.
Betamore joins The Foundery, Under Armour Lighthouse, Bustin Boards, Hungry Harvest, Sagamore Spirit, Social Leagues, Tapologie, Treason Toting Co., and Workbench at City Garage. City Garage is part of Sagamore Development’s 266-acre Master Plan for Port Covington.
