Ceremony Coffee Roasters Opens at Cross Street Market

Ceremony Coffee Roasters opened this week in a 1,910 sq. ft. retail space at the newly-renovated Cross Street Market. It is the third Baltimore City location for the coffee business based in Annapolis.

Ceremony Coffee Roasters has a roastery and cafe in Annapolis where it roasts its beans and distributes to approximately 300 retail and corporate accounts. That location opened in 2002 when owner Vincent Iatesta was looking to tap into his entrepreneurial spirit and get in on the growth of craft coffee. He later opened a second cafe in Annapolis in 2007, before beginning his expansion into Baltimore in 2015. There are now locations in Mount Vernon, Harbor Point, and Cross Street Market. A fourth location will open at Whitehall Mill in Hampden.

Iatesta knew he wanted three to four locations in Baltimore and had been eyeing Federal Hill. He zeroed in on the Cross Street Market opportunity after he was approached by its leasing team of CANAdev. He was hoping to open the Cross Street Market location in December but, after some delays, he his happy to finally get the cafe up and running.

The cafe has exposed cinder block, exposed concrete ceilings, wood and tile accents, and large windows looking out towards Cross St., Light St., and the interior of the market. It has table seating, couch seating, counter service, and a kitchen. It will have a service window looking out to Cross St. that will serve online orders. Iatesta said he likes a clean look so the focus is on the coffee.

Iatesta said the beans at Ceremony are a seasonal product and typically come from the Northern Hemisphere in the summer and the Southern Hemisphere in the winter. The beans come from countries in Central America, South America, East Africa, and Indonesia.

Coffee drinks at Ceremony’s Cross Street Market location include espresso, Long Black, Cortado, Cappuccino, Flat White, Latte, Mocha, Americano, Black Shakerato, White Shakerato, nitro cold brew, pour over coffee, and regular coffee. Patrons can also get Ceremony’s canned cold brew to-go.

Ceremony always has a list of seasonal signature coffee drinks that are created by staff members, who concoct the drinks and get a percentage of the profits. One current drink on the menu is the Flower + Frost which is a latte with vanilla lavender honey served with a lavender sugar dust rim.

Sweets include a nitro cold brew ice cream float, a coffee milkshake, and Affogato, which is espresso with ice cream.

Ceremony also has a daily selection of teas and iced teas from Song Tea, Chai latte, Matcha latte, hot cocoa, and Baltimore’s Hex kombucha.

Ceremony’s food menu includes breakfast muffins and bagels; Berries and Yogurt; Matcha Overnight Oats; toasts including Spicy Avocado Toast, grilled cheeses, and paninis; and a gluten-free Macro Bowl. Iatesta said the menu will expand and will eventually include Ceremony’s most popular item, the Poached Egg Toast with bacon jam, avocado, and feta.

Ceremony’s Cross Street Market location is open daily from 630am to 8pm.

Free WiFi is available to customers.
