How South Baltimore Voted for Governor

The Baltimore Sun made an interactive map of how the State of Maryland voted for Governor. Below is a look at how the South Baltimore Peninsula neighborhoods, plus Ridgely’s Delight, Pigtown, Hollins Market, and Union Square voted.

The race for Governor was between Republican incumbent Governor Larry Hogan and Democrat challenger Ben Jealous, along with Green Party candidate Ian Schlakman and Libertarian candidate Shawn Quinn. Governor Hogan won re-election with 1,196,993 votes (56.2%) to Ben Jealous’ 910,890 votes (42.8%). Shawn Quinn received 12,064 votes (0.6%) and Ian Shackleman received 10,050 votes (0.5%).

Governor Larry Hogan won the South Baltimore Peninsula in 2014 over Representative Anthony Brown 2,577 to 2,317 votes or 52.7% to 47.3%. Compared to 2014, Governor Hogan improved his lead by more than 5 points and gained 1,518 more votes on the peninsula. A total of 2,573 more people voted for governor in 2018 than in 2014 on the South Baltimore Peninsula.

In 2014, Governor Hogan lost this area with 271 votes (26%) to Representative Anthony Brown’s 769 votes (74%). Larry Hogan improved in this area by 4.5% and 206 votes. Ben Jealous garnered 295 more votes in this area than Anthony Brown. A total of 560 more people in this area voted for governor in 2018 compared to 2014.

In 2014, Governor Hogan lost the combined areas of the South Baltimore Peninsula, Ridgely’s Delight, and Barre Circle to Representative Anthony Brown by 3,086 votes to 2,986 votes or 50.8% to 49.2%. Governor Hogan won this area in 2018 with 4,572 votes to 4,384 votes for Ben Jealous or 50.6% to 48.5%.
