Social Leagues, a Baltimore-based adult social sports league company, announced the relocation of its offices to Plank Industries’ City Garage at 101 W. Dickman St. in Port Covington. Social Leagues joins Bustin Boards, Sagamore Spirit, CWIST, and Tapologie at the Main Street section of City Garage. Demian Costa, managing partner of Sagamore Ventures, the building’s owner, told SouthBMore.com City Garage is fully leased and that additional tenants would be announced in the near future. City Garage is also the home of The Foundery and the Under Armour Lighthouse.
Social Leagues is relocating to City Garage from incubator Betamore in Federal Hill. It intends to grow its local Baltimore staff, as well as its national staff and the staff of BmoreKids Sports, a nonprofit founded by CEO Giovanni Marcantoni that provides free sports leagues to youth in underserved communities.
It will use a shared workspace at City Garage and will also have storage space for its equipment.
“We’re extremely grateful to the team at Betamore, without whom we couldn’t have grown so fast,” said Marcantoni. “Our mission is to make Baltimore the most active city in the country, for both adults to kids. This move aligns the Social Leagues and Plank Industries brands, through which we believe we can achieve the goal of providing a free play experience for a child for each adult who plays in one of our leagues.”
“We’re thrilled with Social Leagues’ success locally and nationally,” said Betamore CEO Jennifer Meyer. “Social Leagues is a great example of what happens when a startup’s vision is supported with the kind of resources and mentorship that Betamore offers. We can’t wait to see how this move helps Social Leagues continue to grow.”
The company began as a 16-person Federal Hill bocce ball league in 2010 and now operates social sports leagues in six different cities. The new space has room for 20-plus employees. Social Leagues currently employs six full-time employees in its Baltimore office and 15 full-time employees across the country. It has more than 800 part-time employees.
The company also recently completed a merger of its New York office with NYC Social.
“As we continue to plan and develop City Garage and the surrounding areas, we know that Social Leagues will add that spirit of fun that will help us increase the quality of life for businesses and residents in the area,” said Costa.
