Cross 10 Grocery has left the Cross Street Market and opened its new location less than a block away at 1039 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill. The approximately 600 sq. ft. space was the former home of Four Seasons Hair Salon which closed in 2016.
The Cross Street Market is getting redeveloped by Caves Valley Partners (CVP) and Cross 10 was not offered an opportunity to be a part of the future market. All of the tenants at the Cross Street Market, other than Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood, were on month-to-month leases at the time CVP took over the market from Baltimore City’s Baltimore Public Market Corporations.
Cross 10 focuses on lottery and cigarette sales, and also sells candy, sodas, and some groceries. It will be adding pre-packaged ice cream at the new store. Cross 10, which was open for six years at the market before moving to the storefront last week, was a popular space for lottery players in Cross Street Market as it offered live games such as Keno. The new location has several tables for its customers.
Owner Yong Chong told SouthBMore.com he spent a month setting up the new space and is still making some improvements.
“I love the market and I love my customers, they treat me so well,” said Chong. “They said, find a place close to the market and we will support you. I get my strength from them. I was looking around and luckily I found this. The landlord is a nice guy and he gave me this opportunity.”
“I’m very happy,” he continued. “Now I can sell anything I want. At the Cross Street Market there was a lot of restrictions.”
