Today, Caves Valley Partners (CVP) announced that four new pop-up stalls will open in Cross Street Market in Federal Hill throughout the month of November in recently renovated vacant stalls. This marks the beginning of CVP’s redevelopment effort at the market. In addition to the new pop-ups, Cross Street Market will be open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning November 12.
The first pop-up stall, anticipated to open by November 6, is Sundays, a creative donut concept. Cookie Dough & Co., a shop serving safe-to-eat edible cookie dough, and Smoke, a modern American BBQ concept with a location in Hunt Valley, will open mid-November. Prescription Chicken, which serves soups that are “sure to cure whatever ails you” and Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls, serving homemade yogurt parfaits, will co-occupy the fourth stall, which is expected to open by the end of November.
“Our goal in bringing in these new pop-ups is to get a jump start on improving the current facility and to invigorate the market with new and complementary concepts,” said Arsh Mirmiran, a partner at CVP in a press release. “By bringing in these pop-ups ahead of upcoming major renovations, the new merchants, expected to become mainstays in the redeveloped market, can meet their customers while driving additional business to the market as a whole.”
“Times have changed and it is time for an opportunity, as well as the risk,” says Henry Reisinger, owner of Fenwick Meats in a press release. “Construction in the Cross Street Market will yield a long-term increase in foot traffic and more business for present and future merchants.”
Steve Cole, organizer of the grassroots Revive Cross Street Market group in South Baltimore, said, “It’s great to see progress starting on the revitalization of the market,” in a press release. “The new pop-up stalls are a small but exciting step that I hope the community will support, along with the current vendors, as the market moves forward.”
Several existing merchants have signed on for an additional two years after the redevelopment begins. These tenants include Steve’s Lunch, Fenwick Choice Meats, Kwon’s Fresh Produce, and The Pretzel Twist. New tenants coming to Cross Street Market include Annapolis-based Ceremony Coffee Roasters; DC-based Cucina Al Volo, which will sell pastas with locally-sourced ingredients; and Sarah Simington, owner of Federal Hill’s Blue Moon Too, who will open a stall selling quirky home goods. These new tenants were announced in March.
Cross Street Market vendors that recently closed include Mondawmin Chicken, Tian’s Teriyaki, and The Flower Shop. The Flower Shop relocated to 1206 Ridgely St. in Pigtown/Carroll-Camden Industrial Area.
The revised plan for the redevelopment of the market allows for the facility and its existing merchants to stay open throughout the phased renovation process, which is expected to accelerate in early 2018 and be fully completed by mid-2019. Cross Street Market is being developed by Caves Valley Partners, with leasing by Cana Development, construction and property management by MacKenzie, and architecture by Brown Craig Turner, all of which are locally based companies.
