Hanover Street Bridge/Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge to Close This Weekend for Drawbridge Repairs

The Hanover Street Bridge/Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge will close again this weekend for repairs. This is the fourth weekend closure since October.

Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) spokesperson Kathy Dominick told SouthBMore.com in an email, “DOT’s contractor is doing mechanical equipment upgrades to the bridge which includes replacing the center and tail locks on the drawbridge.  This work is very time consuming which is why there are multiple weekend closures scheduled.”

Work will continue in the coming weeks and the following closure are planned:

  • 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2019 through 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019
  • 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 through 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019
  • 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2019
  • 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019
  • 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019 through 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019
  • 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019

Weekend Road Closures for November 8-10, 2019

Hanover Street Bridge Closure This Weekend for Ongoing Maintenance Work

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that the Hanover Street Bridge/Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed part of the weekend for ongoing maintenance work.

Starting at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2019, the Hanover Street Bridge/Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed to through trafficin both directions between Waterview Avenue and Cromwell Street with detours in effect.  The bridge will remain closed until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

Variable message signs will be deployed in the area to alert motorists of the closures.  Motorists traveling in the vicinity of the bridge on these dates and times should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

During the closure, citizens should utilize Russell Street/MD-295 as an alternate route:

Southbound Hanover Street detour:

Southbound Hanover Street traffic will be detoured south on I-95, south on MD-295, south on Waterview Avenue via the Annapolis Road exit, then back to Hanover Street.

Northbound Hanover Street detour:

Northbound Hanover Street traffic will be detoured west on Waterview Avenue via the Annapolis Road exit, north on the service road to MD-295/Russell Street, east on Hamburg Street back to Hanover Street.

Lower St. Paul Street Temporary Closure

On Friday, November 08, 2019 a portion of Lower St. Paul Street will be closed for a special event.  Starting at 4:00 p.m., lane courses will be implemented along Lower St. Paul Street between Centre and Pleasant Streets with parking restrictions in effect.  Then at 6:00 p.m. this portion of the roadway will be completely closed to through traffic until approximately 1:00 a.m. with detours in effect.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Temporary Closures of Pulaski Street and W. Baltimore Street

On Saturday, temporary road closures will be implemented along portions of Pulaski Street and W. Baltimore Street for a special event.  On Saturday, November 09, 2019 the following roadways will be closed to through traffic from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. with detours and parking restrictions in effect:

  • Pulaski Street from W. Fairmount Avenue to Booth Street
  • Baltimore Street from N. Smallwood to N. Payson Streets

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Charles Street Lane Closures

On Saturday, temporary lane closures will be implemented along a portion of Charles Street for a crane lift operation.  On Saturday, November 09, 2019, temporary lane closures will be implemented along Charles Street between Mt. Royal Avenue and Oliver Street from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. weather permitting.  At least one lane of through traffic will remain open for motorists during this time.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

St. Paul Street Crane Operation

On Saturday, a portion of St. Paul Street will temporarily close for a crane lift operation.  On Saturday, November 09, 2019, St. Paul Street will be closed to through traffic between 33rd and 34th Streets from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weather permitting with detours and parking restrictions in effect.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Haven Street Traffic Flagging Operation

This weekend, a traffic flagging operation will be implemented along a portion of Haven Street for a crane lift operation.  On Saturday, November 09, 2019 and Sunday, November 10, 2019, lane closures will be implemented along Haven Street between Boston and O’Donnell Streets from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.  During these times, a traffic flagging operation will be implemented to alternate traffic through the work zone.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Traffic Modifications for the Red Hot Run 5K

This Sunday, November 10, 2019 traffic modifications will be implemented for the Red Hot Run 5K Race and Family Fun Walk which kick s off at 8:30 a.m.

The event will begin and end at the Roland Park Country School campus located on Roland Avenue.   Participants will proceed north on Roland Avenue and will turn left into St. Mary’s Seminary Driveway, right onto Northern Parkway, right on Roland Ave, then right at the entrance leading back to the Seminary.  Participants will ‘U-turn’ onto the exit driveway heading toward Roland Avenue, turn right back onto Roland Avenue, right on Kenwood Avenue, right on Goodwood Gardens, followed by left on Club Road.  The course proceeds right on Deepdene Road, left onto the Bike Lane/Sidewalk of Roland Ave and left into the driveway of Roland Park Country School to finish on School Grounds.

During the event, one lane of travel will be coned off for participants along the race route.  Temporary traffic stops may be implemented during the race for the safety of participants.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
