Mother’s Federal Hill Grille is celebrating its 21st birthday in South Baltimore with a new menu and new specials, as well as packaging its soups, dressings, and ice creams for customers to go.

New items include a Lobster and Shrimp Roll, NOLA BBQ Shrimp, Lobster Cobb Salad, Eastern Shore Rockfish topped with Crabmeat, and Veggie Stir Fry. Every day, Mother’s offers a menu of 18-plus beef, turkey, chicken, and bison burgers; Brother Don’s Wings and boneless wings in 15 different flavors; Baltimore- and New Orleans-inspired sandwiches with housemade chips; seafood entrees; land entrees; starters; homemade soups; a large selection of entree salads; and desserts incorporating Pop Pop’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Daily specials include $9.99 Boneless Wings on Mondays; Phat Tuesday with $5 off Entree Salads, $13 Jambalaya, and $5 Bread Pudding Beignets; Maryland Day on Wednesdays with $4 Maryland Crab Soup, $8.99 Crab Dip, $15 Crab Cake Sandwiches, $15 Eastern Shore Rockfish, and additional sandwich specials; Fajita Night on Thursdays starting at $13.99 with shrimp, chicken, or steak; all-day happy hour on Fridays; and bucket, mimosa and bloody mary specials for Saturday and Sunday Brunch. Mother’s offers daily drink specials and happy hour starting at 2pm Monday to Thursday.
Mother’s is open every day for dinner and lunch, and offers breakfast starting at 9am every Saturday and Sunday. The breakfast menu includes items like the Michael Phelps Platters, Creme Brûlée French Toast, Ray Lewis Super Bowl MVP steak and eggs, Mom’s Benedict, the Breakfast Burrito, bagel sandwiches, and omelettes, as well as newly-added items including Irish Cream Pancakes, Chesapeake Frittata, and Breakfast Nachos.
Mother’s hosts its Pajama Brunch twice a year when everyone in pajamas eats and drinks for 1/2 price.
Everyday ready-to-go items include pints of Mother’s signature housemade blue cheese and ranch dressings; quarts of Cream of Crab and Maryland Crab Soup; and pints of Pop Pop’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Mother’s has a growing catering business and has been busy with weddings at the Baltimore Museum of Industry.
Mother’s owner Dave Rather is hoping people will come by and try out the new menu.”We take preparing good food seriously and want to build back our trust in the neighborhood,” said Rather. “We have worked on stepping up our game. All line cooks doing a serve safe class, we created a temperature log book, and are checking temps multiple times a day. We are holding staff to a higher standard.”
In 2015, Mother’s completed an overhaul of its first floor dining room. This included an expansion that involved moving a stairwell and the addition of outdoor seating along Charles St., as well as new floor-to-ceiling windows, new windows in the bar, a new 20-beer draft system with a focus on Maryland breweries, and new tables.
Mother’s now has three restaurants with sister locations in Arnold and Timonium, and is working with local developers on a potential fourth location.
