South Baltimore may have a new post office, but area residents will no longer be able to pickup certified/registered mail, hold mail, and packages in the neighborhood. The pickups will now take place at the Brooklyn Curtis Bay Post Office at 10 16th Ave. in Anne Arundel County.
USPS posted this announcement on its new South Station post office at 1200 S. Hanover St. The post office moved on February 4th from 1220 Race St. to a 1,200 sq. ft. space at 1200 S. Hanover St.
The Brooklyn Curtis Bay Post is 4.1 miles from the South Station Post Office.
South Station Post Office will be full service for sending mail and packages, but not for pickup due to a limited amount of space.
The former USPS site was acquired by developer Caves Valley Partners (CVP) in 2014 as part of its three-block, $275-million Stadium Square development. The one-story building and parking lot will be demolished to make way for a new six-story, 67,000 sq. ft. office building with ground floor retail, and a five-story, approximately 315-unit apartment building on that block. The block was also previously the home of several other businesses that already relocated from their former buildings, which have now been demolished.
The new South Station Post Office is located in a retail building also owned by CVP.
In response to the announcement, CVP partner Arsh Mirmiran said in an email to SouthBMore.com, “We were not aware of their intention to do that. They simply gave us specifications for what they wanted out of a new space and we provided that to them.”
