NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” will be filming at the Inner Harbor’s Rash Field on April 28th and April 29th. American Ninja Warrior made a previous stop in Baltimore in 2013.
The deadline to apply for a spot in the competition has expired, but spectators will be able to attend.
American Ninja Warrior follows competitors as they tackle challenging obstacle courses in city qualifying and finals rounds throughout the country. Top competitors in each of the city finals rounds move onto the national finals, where they compete on a four-stage course that includes multiple obstacles. The winner, who must complete all four stages, including the final 75 ft. rope climb, takes home a grand prize of $1 million.
In addition to Baltimore, the show will make stops in Los Angeles (Universal Studios backlot), Atlanta (Mercedes Benz Stadium), Oklahoma City (State Capitol Building), Cincinnati (downtown), and Washington State’s Tacoma Dome.
The show’s national finals will take place in Las Vegas.
American Ninja Warrior is in its 11th season and is based on Tokyo Broadcasting System Television’s “Sasuke,” which is now in its 36th season in Japan.
American Ninja Warrior has a couple local connections including Geoff Britten who was a cameraman for Orioles broadcasts with Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. Britten began competing in 2014 and finished second in the competition in 2015. He has made the finals three times. Britten announced he is returning for Season 11 in 2019.
Former Towson University gymnast Kacy Catanzaro became the first women to complete the qualifying course of American Ninja Warrior in 2014. Cantanzaro retired from American Ninja Warrior in 2017 and signed with the WWE.
