A little less than nine months after opening, Baltimore Soup Company (Balt Soup Co) closed its 2,000 sq. ft. restaurant at 2 East Wells. Balt Soup Co was the first business to open in the first-floor retail space at the 153-unit apartment building that opened in 2015. Minnow operates in another first-floor retail space in the building.
2 East Wells was developed by Chesapeake Realty Partners (CRP) and was sold over the summer to Broadtree Residential, Inc. 1901 South Charles, across the street from 2 East Wells, was also sold from CRP to Broadtree Residential, Inc. in the deal. Principals at CRP have an equity stake in Broadtree Residential, Inc..
In an email, Balt Soup Co owner David Redmond said, “We had a good run and loved our guests that supported us, but there just weren’t enough to make it work.”
Balt Soup Co continues to operate a location in Towson and hopes to open additional locations in the future. Redmond and wife Lisa Redmond opened and sold cafes over the last 16 years in the Baltimore area before starting Balt Soup Co.
A representative from 2 East Wells told SouthBMore.com that conversations are ongoing to find a replacement for this space as soon as possible.
Balt Soup Co is the second soup and sandwich concept to close in South Baltimore in recent weeks. It joins Grilled Cheese & Co which was located in Federal Hill.
