The Union Bros. development at 37 W. Cross St. in Sharp-Leadenhall received the award for Excellence in Historic Preservation and Sustainable Design from the Maryland Historic Trust in March. The $8-million project by developers Len Bush and John Roe transformed the former 40,000 sq. ft. Union Bros. Furniture and Plymouth Wallpaper property, which dates back to 1919, into an office and retail complex.
Roe said it’s nice be awarded for the “fruits of their labor,” and said there is now a plaque hanging in the lobby of Union Bros.
Bush and Roe wrapped up construction on the three buildings last year, but are still completing tenant build-outs as leases are signed. Already in the property is a 2,058 sq. ft. office for Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation and a 10,032 sq. ft. office for architecture firm CRGA.
CRGA is leasing the entire third floor and Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation is leasing a first-floor space. Union Bros. still has three second-floor offices spaces available totaling 12,000 sq. ft., as well as two first-floor retail spaces that are 4,500 sq. ft. and 6,000 sq. ft.
Bush and Roe are hoping to get a restaurant for the 4,500 sq. ft. space which opens to an outdoor courtyard.
Roe told SouthBMore.com they have been getting more activity on the available spaces in recent months and that a couple of proposals with potential tenants have been delivered.
