Rachel New American Cuisine closed on Monday at 554 E. Fort Ave. in Federal Hill/Riverside. It first opened in the three-story, 3,792 sq. ft. building in January 2017. Rachel posted the following to Facebook:
“Regretfully, we are no longer open for service. The staff and ownership of Rachel are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported our endeavor. Thank you to each of our guests and the entire Fed Hill community for allowing us to serve you.”
Since the mid-2000s, the location has been the home of Soigné, Sly Fox Pub, Ullswater, Tuscan Fresh, and Breadbangers. Rachel owner Barry Fleischmann performed a cosmetic renovation on the building before opening his restaurant.
The building features a first-floor bar and dining room, a large second-floor kitchen, and dining rooms on the second and third floor.
Rachel joined other Federal Hill restaurants that have recently closed including In Bloom, Metropolitan, Bluegrass, and Regi’s. All of these restaurants are currently for sale or seeking new operators.
Wine Market Bistro in Locust Point has also closed its dining room, but its liquor store and front bar remain open. Wine Market will be announcing changes in the near future.
