Tomorrow In Bloom owners Cecilia Benalcazar and Kevin Perry will open a new restaurant, Blooming Deli, right next door at 1448 Light St. in Federal Hill. The 800 sq. ft. space is the former home of Urban Deli, which is relocating to a bigger space at 1025 Light St. and will reopen around March 1st.
Benalcazar told SouthBMore.com that her and Perry got to know the landlord from being next door neighbors and took the opportunity after being offered the space. Benalcazar and Perry opened Liv2Eat, which was rebranded as In Bloom last summer, five years ago at 1444 Light St. Benalcazar previously owned several delis and smoothie shops.
Blooming Deli will serve sandwiches and paninis using Boars Head meats, homemade sauces, and Stonemill Bakery breads; homemade soups; salads; quesadillas; bagels and bagel sandwiches using Baltimore’s Bottoms Up Bagels; and homemade hummus, potato salad, and fruit parfaits. Drinks will include coffee, Hex Kombucha, fresh squeezed orange juice, and smoothies. Blooming Deli will also sell dried goods such as sauces, jams, pasta sauces, and pastas.
“Blooming Deli is a continuation of good food made from scratch,” said Benalcazar. “Kevin can’t do it any other way.”
Benalcazar told SouthBMore.com that she is always stopping by area farmers’ markets to find the best food for her restaurants.
Blooming Deli will be open every day from 7am to 3pm and will have a small team of two to three employees. It will offer catering and delivery through apps.
Blooming Deli will be adding a new sign to the exterior.
Benalcazar said that running two restaurants will be a challenge, but that it’s all about getting the formula in place and hiring the right people. She looks forward to working in an environment with a little “less pressure” than a formal dining setting such as In Bloom.
Benalcazar and Perry live in the neighborhood, just a short walk from the restaurants. “We know a lot of people in the neighborhood and we looking forward to meeting new people at Blooming Deli,” said Benalcazar.
Blooming Deli is right next door to the future expanded home of Shoyou Sushi, which is currently under construction. Benalcazar and Perry are also the second restaurant team on a two-block stretch of Light St. to take over an adjacent space as the team from Das Bier Haus will be opening an Italian carryout and pizza restaurant next door at the former Federal Hill Carryout.
