101 Deli Bar Opens This Friday in Federal Hill

A new restaurant concept called 101 Deli Bar will open this Friday at the former 1,400 sq. ft. Forever Yogurt space at 1118 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill. 101 Deli Bar will be operated by the team of Andrew Dunlap, Michael McDevitt, and Sean White who also own Banditos Bar & Kitchen and Wayward Smokehouse.

101 Deli Bar is adjacent to Banditos and is under the same business and seven-day liquor license. The restaurant spaces are connected and patrons will be able to walk back and forth between the two. The 101 Deli Bar space has been completely renovated and is “meant to be our modern spin on what we remember cafeterias to be – clean, colorful, and social,” Dunlap told SouthBMore.com in an email.

101 Deli Bar will have a main bar, two communal high-top tables, booths, lower top tables, low-top tables for parties of four, a long banquette for parties of two, and outdoor patio seating. The front of the space has large glass garage doors and a 101 Deli Bar LED sign.

“The menu is our spin on our favorite foods,” said Dunlap. “101 is taking it back to the basics, but redefining them in our unique ways: smash patty burgers, sandwiches using premium ingredients, house-cured charcuterie, hand-spun milkshakes (add booze if you like), natural wine list, all local beers, lots of bites for sharing.  The idea is to be social and enjoy your company.”

The team moved forward on this idea when the space next to Banditos became available. “When Forever Yogurt went out of business, we saw an opportunity for a concept that we felt the neighborhood needed for some time,” Dunlap told SouthBMore.com. “Staying in the neighborhood not only allows our team to be within arm’s reach of the other locations, but gives us the opportunity to continue to put back into the neighborhood we began in.”

101 Deli Bar will be open every day for lunch and dinner, and will add brunch in the near future. It will employ approximately 25 employees.

“We think we are stepping the bar up not only with food and drink options, but with ambiance and atmosphere,” said Dunlap. “We believe there’s a time and place for a dark corner bar, but we also believe in providing unique experiences that provide a nice setting to take a date or friends to, but without the pretentiousness.”

Dunlap, McDevitt, and White hope to grow this concept with additional locations in the future.
