Metropolitan to Close in Federal Hill at the End of the Year

Metropolitan Coffeehouse & Wine Bar at 902 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill will close at the end of the year. The restaurant posted the following announcement on Facebook earlier this month:

After 13 and a half years, Metropolitan will be closing after December 31. We are heartbroken by this decision, but the last few years have been difficult for our business, our city and our neighborhood. We choose to remember the last 13 and a half years as beautiful because of you – our friends, customers and neighbors. We hope to see you before we close to properly thank you for all the good times.

Thank you all.

Metropolitan’s last night of business will be a New Year’s Eve party this Sunday.

Owner Bruce Dorsey told SouthBMore.com that no effort has been made to sell the business at this time, but hopes to sell the business in the future.

The news garnered a strong reaction on social media with many posting their sadness about the announcement and sharing their favorite memories of the restaurant.

Metropolitan serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and coffee to go. It is known for its large selection of imported and craft beers, as well as its selection on wines, and hosting Firkin Thursday each week.

Two New Baltimore Bike Share Stations Added to Federal Hill

Baltimore Bike Share has added two stations in Federal Hill. The stations are at Ostend St. and Light St., and S. Charles St. and Fort Ave. The two new stations join two existing stations on the South Baltimore Peninsula, including one at McHenry Row in Locust Point and one outside the Cross Street Market in Federal Hill, which is one of Baltimore Bike Share’s three busiest stations.

The new station at Ostend St. and Light St. has nine bike docks and the station at S. Charles St. and Fort Ave. has six bike docks. Other stations in South Baltimore include Camden Yards, Baltimore Visitor Center at the Inner Harbor, University of Maryland BioPark, and Hollins Market. Two stations are planned for Pigtown.

Baltimore Bike Share was shut down for a month this fall due to widespread thefts. New locking systems were designed and installed for the stations and the bikes received upgraded GPS systems.

South Baltimore Couple Killed in Florida Plane Crash

A South Baltimore couple was among five people killed in a plane crash in Central Florida on Christmas Eve. Victoria Shannon-Worthington (26) and Peter Worthington (27) were flying in a Cessna 340 flown by Shannon-Worthington’s father, John Shannon, en route to Key West before it crashed soon after a 715am takeoff. The conditions were foggy at the time, according to the Polk County, Florida Sheriff’s Office.

From the Polk County Sheriff’s Office:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shannon, Worthington, and Clayton families. This is a tragedy any time, but it is so much worse because it happened on Christmas Eve. We are providing all of our resources to assist them with anything they need to help them get through this horrific tragedy.”
– Grady Judd, Sheriff

Final update to the Cessna 340 (twin-engine) plane crash that occurred in Bartow this morning. As a reminder, PCSO is conducting the death investigation portion of this. The FAA and NTSB will investigate the cause of the crash.

Although the Medical Examiner will positively identify the victims, based on interviews with family and friends, and witnesses at the Bartow Airport, we believe the following five adult victims were on-board the plane:

The pilot, 70-year-old John Shannon, a local attorney from Lakeland;

Four passengers:

John’s daughter, 24-year-old Olivia Shannon, a Southeastern University student, of Lakeland;

John’s daughter, 26-year-old Victoria Shannon Worthington, a Baltimore school teacher, of Baltimore, MD;

Victoria’s husband, 27-year-old Peter Worthington, Jr., a third year law student at the University of Maryland, of Baltimore, MD;

Family friend, 32-year-old Krista Clayton, a local teacher at Jewett Academy, of Lakeland.

The pilot, John Shannon, filed a flight plan this morning to fly to Key West. His daughter and her husband arrived in town yesterday for the holidays, from Baltimore, where they live. Krista joined the family on the trip.

All of the victims perished upon or immediately after impact. Autopsies will be conducted later this week to determine their exact causes of death.

Please keep their families in your prayers. Please hug your loved ones a little bit tighter today.

From WBALTV:

Shannon-Worthington was a fourth-grade teacher at Baltimore International Academy Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore. Worthington was a third-year law student at the University of Maryland Baltimore.

The couple married in June, according to an online wedding announcement, and were visiting Shannon-Worthington’s family.

Also from WBALTV:

Worthington worked as a compliance assistant.

In a statement, Executive Athletic Director Damon Evans said, “Peter was a wonderful person and talented member of our athletic department staff. Upon the completion of his law degree at the University of Maryland, Peter was looking to combine his passion for athletics and law by pursuing a career in compliance. Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with the families of Peter and his wife, Victoria.”

From The Baltimore Sun:

Baltimore Teachers Union President Marietta English called Shannon-Worthington “an exemplary teacher.”

“Our hearts and prayers go out to her family, colleagues and her students at BIA,” she said in a statement.

University of Maryland Carey Law Dean Donald Tobin said Worthington was a third-year law student.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to his friends and family and also to the friends and family of those who died with him in this terrible crash,” Tobin said. “He was a tremendous contributor to our community, and he will be terribly missed.”

Both Shannon-Worthington and Worthington were graduates of Clemson University. Shannon-Worthington earned a masters’s in elementary education form Johns Hopkins University.

Terrance West Teams with Race Pace Bicycles to Give Away 25 Bicycles to Baltimore City Kids

On Thursday evening, Ravens’ running back Terrance West was at Federal Hill’s Race Pace Bicycles giving bicycles to 25 kids from the Strengthening Family Program in Baltimore City. The street bikes from SCOTT Sports USA were purchased by West and put together and fitted by Race Pace to accommodate kids of different sizes and ages. Each kid also received a bike lock.

“The first thing I wanted to do every Christmas morning was go for a ride on my bike,” said West, who grew up in Baltimore and played football at Towson University.

“I used to be in their shoes, I know what it means to get a bike,” said West, who was happy to put a smile on the kids’ faces around the holidays. He joked that the kids will never be late for school and told SouthBMore.com about all the joy he had riding his bike as a kid.

One of the kids told West he would remember this day for the rest of his life.

West told SouthBMore.com how NBA star Carmelo Anthony would come home to Baltimore to give back to the kids when he was growing up.

The event was part of West’s Terrance West B.W.I. Foundation.

Race Pace was also excited to take part in the event. Nick Obriecht of Race Pace told SouthBMore.com that they try to participate in a bike donation event every year. Race Pace was contacted by Scott Sports and had just a few days to get the bikes fitted, put together, and ready for the event.

“We are happy to participate, this is awesome,” said Obriecht.

New Design for Cross Street Market Gives Nod to the 1950s

Cross Street Market developer Caves Valley Partners (CVP) has revealed new renderings for its redevelopment of the 31,800 sq. ft. Federal Hill market that sits between Light St. and Charles St. The new exterior design is a nod to the post-1952 look of the Cross Street Market, which was rebuilt after a 1951 fire that brought the previous structure to the ground.

CVP was originally partnering with Scott Plank’s War Horse Cities on the project. War Horse proposed a gray exterior design with features such as a rooftop deck, a rooftop greenhouse, and breaks in the building at Marshall St. and Patapsco St. War Horse walked away from the project before CVP reached a deal with the Baltimore Public Markets Corporation (BPMC) in 2016.

The new plan has since been scaled back to fit into a budget, which is now $7.3 million, and to accommodate current tenants so they can stay open during the construction.

“I thought the original War Horse design was incredible,” said Arsh Mirmiran, a principal at CVP. “But, through various changes and iterations and tweaking the design so many times it lost the original flavor of its intent.”

Mirmiran decided it was time to give the market a retro look and go back to a version of the original design after the fire. CVP is working with Brown Craig Turner Architects on the project.

The new proposed design features a brick front on Light St. and a 1952-inspired neon “Cross Street Market” sign that protrudes from the facade. The large window openings will once again have translucent windows bringing in natural light, and a Cross Street Market mural will be painted across the front. This design will be replicated on S. Charles St. as well.

Natural light, which is currently lacking at the Cross Street Market, is a big theme of the new design. CVP will reopen many former window openings that were previously closed in with brick. Many of the walls of the markets on both sides of Cross St. are also lined with walk-in refrigerators and storage, preventing the use of windows along those walls. Mirmiran said that most storage will be held within the vendors stalls and not along the walls, and that some current vendors will need to keep less storage on site and accept more frequent deliveries.

Cross Street Market’s long exterior walls along Cross St. will be painted and be adjacent to several new outdoor seating areas along a new proposed nine-foot sidewalk. Each side of the market will have five entrances, and each will stand out with a different paint color and signage. Mirmiran said each door will have signage for the closest stalls. The Cross St. exterior walls will also have some logos, awnings, and four to five new take-out windows.

Similar to previous designs, large tenants will anchor the ends of the market. Ceremony Coffee and Steve’s Lunch will most likely anchor the Light St. side of the market with spaces of approximately 1,000 sq. ft. Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood, which has a long-term lease, will continue to anchor the S. Charles St. side. Mirmiran said that CVP will be able to work around Nick’s during exterior improvements, but at some point will need to work in Nick’s space to update the building’s systems.

The market will have 30 stalls and and six common seating areas. If a stall is going to have its own seating, it will be at a counter within its stall. Mirmiran is expecting about eight to ten fresh food vendors that will be grouped near each other, likely toward the center of the north side of the market. They will provide the type of foods found at grocery stores like produce, butcher meat, cheese, dairy products, fresh fish, and breads. Fenwick Meats and Kwon’s Produce, two fresh food vendors, have agreed to a two-year extension and several other current vendors will also likely stay as well.

While Nick’s has its own beer/wine license, the rest of the market has been approved through new Maryland General Assembly legislation to apply for a new liquor license. This license would allows the sale of beer wine and liquor to be served in 20% of the leasable area in the market not including Nick’s. Alcoholic beverages can be carried within the market and consumed at common seating areas. Several other restrictions were placed on this license as well due to concerns from local residents and businesses.

CVP will begin construction of the market early next year by gutting the currently-vacant stalls. Then CVP will begin construction on the middle portion of the market (furthest from Light St. and S. Charles St.). Most of this area is currently vacant, but several stalls will need to be temporarily relocated to spaces closer to Light and S. Charles St. When this portion of the market has been completed, the existing stalls will then move into spaces in this portion of the market so CVP can renovate the spaces closest to Light St. and S. Charles St. The market will have a new polished concrete floor when completed.

Construction will be done in two phases and CVP is hoping to be completely finished by the second quarter of 2019. Mirmiran said many exterior improvements will be done in Phase 1.

CVP will be presenting its new plans to the Baltimore City Planning Department for feedback.

CVP has agreed to a lease of 15 years with seven renewal periods of five years each for a potential total term of 50 years. Under the management agreement, CVP is entitled to generate revenue from the operation of the market. Allocated revenue will fund the following: $10,000 per month ($120,000 per year) to BPMC as a Priority Payment; monthly payment to CVP’s lender; an annual amount equal to 8% of CSM’s equity contribution; and 50/50 profit-sharing between BPMC and CSM.

The building needs $2.5 million in utility work to get it up to code, according to CVP. Baltimore City has agreed to commit $2 million for these updates.

Four new stalls recently opened at Cross Street Market in temporary locations: SmokePrescription Chicken and Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls, Sundays, and Cookie Dough & Co.

Big Jim’s Deli closed last week after 38 years in business after agreeing to part ways with CVP. Along with Fenwick Meat’s and Kwon’s, Steve’s Lunch and The Pretzel Twist signed two-year extensions earlier this year.

New tenants coming to Cross Street Market in the future include Ceremony Coffee Roasters; DC-based Cucina Al Volo, which will sell pastas with locally-sourced ingredients; and Sarah Simington, owner of Federal Hill’s Blue Moon Too, who will open a stall selling quirky home goods.

Cross Street Market vendors that recently closed include The Flower Shop, Mondawmin Chicken, and Tian’s Teriyaki. The Flower Shop relocated to 1206 Ridgely St. in Pigtown/Carroll-Camden Industrial Area.

All other current vendors remain open.

New Cross Street Market design goes retro

The latest design for Cross Street Market’s renovation hearkens back to its rebuild in the 1950s.

Caves Valley Partners on Tuesday released the latest renderings of the Federal Hill market, diverting from previous designs that included dark gray walls and roll-up garage doors to a look inspired...

10,500 Sq. Ft. Federal Hill Building Purchased for Mixed-Use Development

Developer Brandon Chasen purchased 12 West Montgomery St. in Federal Hill last week. The two-story, 10,500 sq. ft. building, which also faces W. Hughes St., was formerly used as office space but has been vacant for recent years.

Chasen will convert the building into a “high-end,” mixed-used property for both office and residential tenants. Chasen told SouthBMore.com in an email, “We are currently working on the schematic design, so our ideas are still a bit preliminary. In the coming weeks we intend to meet with the Neighborhood Associations and share our plans once we have a full scope of the project.”

The building has a 3,500 sq. ft. garage and Chasen told SouthBMore.com that each unit in the building will be provided a parking space.

Chasen is working with architect Julie Tice of Eastend Design Group on the project.

Chasen is also currently under construction on a redevelopment of the Victory House at 1701 Light St. in South Baltimore. The former 7,074 sq. ft. building has been demolished and construction is in process on a new 13,000 sq. ft., three- and four-story, 10-unit apartment building with a 10-car garage.

South Baltimore Business Roundup

D.C. United Considering Playing at Camden Yards

The D.C. United of Major League Soccer (MLS) will likely need a temporary home next season for several games and that could potentially include playing in Baltimore. Its new D.C. stadium, Audi Field, will be ready next summer, mid-way through the 2018 season. United’s former home, RFK Stadium, does not appear to be a likely location, according to Washington Post’s Soccer Insider Steven Goff.

Goff reports that Annapolis’ Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Capitol One Field at Maryland Stadium College Park, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards could be possibilities. From a recent article about the possibility of playing in Baltimore:

Baltimore: United has had conversations with the Orioles about playing at Camden Yards, which has never staged a soccer game. But those talks have not made much progress. M&T Bank Stadium, an occasional international soccer venue, will undergo further renovations during the NFL’s offseason.

The MLS schedules are expected to be finalized early next year.

Baltimore Remains in Contention for a World Cup Venue

In other soccer news, Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium remains a potential venue in a North American joint bid for the 2026 World Cup. Baltimore is one of the 32 cities currently part of the bid which will likely result in 15 to 18 cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States being selected, according to Goff.

Goff discussed Baltimore’s chances to host in a recent article:

The World Cup, by and large, is played in major metropolitan areas, but even though most big U.S. cities are part of the North American effort to stage the 2026 soccer tournament, bid leaders say they are bullish on playing in secondary markets.

Such talk raises the hopes for places such as Baltimore, Kansas City and Nashville.

“Is it natural to think that places like Los Angeles and New York have an edge? The answer is, of course,” said Sunil Gulati, outgoing president of the U.S. Soccer Federation who chairs the United Bid Committee’s board of directors. “But after two or three or four of those big cities, then it’s wide open.”

New Camden Yards MARC Station Could Break Ground Soon

Plans for a new MARC train station adjacent to Oriole Park at Camden Yards could break ground in 2018, according to Baltimore Business Journal. From a recent article:

The Maryland Stadium Authority approved Aecom as its architect last week. The Board of Public Works is slated to approve Barton Malow Co. as the construction manager for the $7.2 million project on Dec. 20.

The MARC Camden Line is popular for commuters to Washington, D.C., as well as University of Maryland Medical Center employees traveling between Baltimore and College Park.

Phil Hutson, associate vice president of capital projects and planning for Maryland Stadium Authority, said the design process will kickoff next week and hopefully be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2018. The project will likely break ground in the “fall range” of next year, he said.

A Recap of All the Recent Changes at Cross Street Market

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks at Cross Street Market as four new stalls opened and a longtime-staple announced it will close. All of the new stalls will be in temporary “pop-up” locations as Caves Valley Partners (CVP) works through a phased redevelopment of the market which will begin in early 2018. The entire market is now open seven days a week.

Here’s an overview of the recent changes.

Big Jim’s Deli Announced Its Last Day is Tomorrow

After 38 years in business, Big Jim’s Deli announced last week it will close at the Cross Street Market on December 16th. Owner Anna Epsilantis posted the following to Big Jim’s Facebook page:

In 1979 when my Dad, Big Jim, asked me to fill in at the deli until he found new help, I had no idea I would still be here today. Over the past 38 years, I have met so many good people and made many good friends. I want to thank you all for your support and being part of my life. The new redevelopment team and I have mutually agreed to part ways. I plan to close my family business on December 16, 2017. I wish the remaining merchants and the new merchants in the Cross Street Market the best of luck.

Big Jim’s Deli has a 7-day Beer/Wine license. That license can be transferred to a new location or sold to another business in Federal Hill or Baltimore City.

Epsilantis declined to provide any additional comments to SouthBMore.com.

A Heavy Seas tap takeover event took place last night at Big Jim’s as a large crowd celebrated one of the last chances to have a beer or deli sandwich with Epsilantis and her team.

Smoke Opens New BBQ Stall

Smoke opened its new 250 sq. ft. BBQ stall on December 5th at Cross Street Market. The stall is adjacent to Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood and at the former home of Tian’s Teriyaki

This is the second location for Smoke which opened a couple years ago in Cockeysville. Smoke was started by longtime best friends Keith Thompson and Josh White who both lived in Los Angeles and worked in the music industry before opening the restaurant. Their passion for music can be seen on Smoke’s Instagram page where they perform BBQ-inspired rock songs. White has also been a chef for many years.

Smoke’s smoked BBQ menu includes sandwiches with chuck roll beef, pork, chicken, and tofu, along with platters including ribs and wings. White told SouthBMore.com that some of the most popular items include the Boss Dawg sandwich which includes pulled pork, house-cured bacon, cheddar, cole slaw, crispy onions, jalapeƱo-bacon glaze, and pickles. He also raved about the wings that are smoked and grilled and topped with Smoke’s house BBQ sauce. Sides include cole slaw and chips, and they are hoping to add smoked beans soon.

For drinks, Smoke’s Cross Street Market stall will serve Zeke’s Nitro Draught coffee and Boylan’s sodas. Smoke will use the Cross Street Market’s upcoming market-wide liquor license in the future.

Smoke’ stall location is temporary as the market works through phased renovations, but Smoke will be a permanent part of the new Cross Street Market. At its final stall, there will be window, called “called Second-Hand Smoke,” taking late-night orders.

Smoke will be open every day from 11am to 7pm. It also offers catering.

Prescription Chicken and Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls Debuts

A new stall opened last week at Cross Street Market in Federal Hill called Prescription Chicken and Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls. The stall is adjacent to Light St. entrance at the former home of Mondawmin Chicken and is owned by cousins Taryn Pellicone and Valerie Zweig. The business started in Washington D.C. and recently hosted a pop-up at R. House in Baltimore.

Prescription Chicken offers different types of soup where customers can choose their broth and noodles. The three chicken broths are Grandma, which is described as warm, comforting, and delicious; Hangover, which is described as spicy and robust; and Bone Broth which is described as rich and roasty. There is also Chickenless, which is made from vegetables; and the Vegan Bone, which has mushroom and ginger flavors. Customers can choose from egg noodles or matzo balls, or can get it “Bi-partisan” with both. Soups also have chicken and veggies, although the chicken can be held for vegans and vegetarians.

Prescription Chicken also sells a Pho, Thai Coconut, and a Cream of Chicken with Old Bay. Soups come in small and large sizes and range from $6 to $10.

Prescription Chicken also has the Hangover Package which includes a large soup, a tea or ginger ale, Faust’s Awake Potion, and saltines. “We offer no judgement,” they joked. The tea is made by Muman in Washington, D.C. with specialty ingredients to help with hangovers.

Prescription Chicken also offers packages designed for new mothers and those suffering with allergies.

The other component of the stall, Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls, offers 16-ounce yogurt bowls using homemade yogurt and chocolate milk yogurt. The yogurt is described as light and tart with a whipped cream-type consistency.

Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls offers classic combos like strawberries, vanilla cream, and granola, as well as more dessert-style combos like the Chocolate Raspberry with chocolate milk yogurt, raspberries, pomegranate seeds, flaxseeds, and mint chocolate chips. It has 10 combos and costumers can get protein powder, coconut chia pudding, flax powder, rainbow sprinkles, and granola added to any bowl.

Prescription Chicken and Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls also sells bagel holes which are stuffed with cream cheese and made by a baker in Washington, D.C., as well as house-made Challah bread.

Prescription Chicken and Gertie’s Yummy Yogurt Bowls will be open seven days a week from 9am to 7pm. It offers delivery through GrubHub, Postmates, and UberEATS.

Cookie Dough & Co. Opens its Second Location

Cookie Dough & Co. opened at Cross Street Market on Saturday. This is the second location for the edible cookie dough business. Its new stall is at the former home of Buttercream Dreams, which closed in 2016.

Cookie Dough & Co. was started by Patrick Exon and Dan Ju, who also own Pinch, a Chinese dumplings stall at Mount Vernon Marketplace. Cookie Dough & Co. opened its first location at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda in August. It also did a pop-up recently at Mount Vernon Marketplace and has another location planned for Tyson Corner Center in Virginia.

Exon and Ju got the idea for the business after seeing edible cookie dough in New York. Their cookie dough, which is safe to eat, is made with pasteurized eggs and heat-treated flour.

Cookie Dough & Co. will offer five to nine flavors at a time, and customers can order it in a cup or cone and add toppings if they like. Each order comes with a shot of milk. Cookie Dough & Co. also sells dough bites and will serve Asian bubble tea.

Exon told SouthBMore.com that many of the cookie dough recipes are the creation of Ju’s wife.

Exon said they chose Cross Street Market for its next location because Federal Hill is a great neighborhood.

Cookie Dough & Co. will be open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm. Exon noted that they are still “feeling out” what hours they will be open on Sundays. The stall employs three people.

Sundays Finds Its New Home

Sundays, a new doughnut concept from Dooby’s and Sugarvale owner Phil Han, opened on Wednesday at Cross Street Market. The new stall is at the former home of Hot Corner Lee’s near the Light St. entrance.

Sundays will sell a variety of brioche doughnuts including French Toast, which is dusted with fine cinnamon and sugar and filled with maple custard; Eggnog, which is inspired by the favorite holiday drink; Raspberry Almond, which is inspired by cookies; and New York-Style with everything bagel seasoning and a jalapeƱo and chive cream cheese filling.

Most doughnuts will be $3.25 each.

Sundays will also sell fried chicken sandwiches, which include the original with ancho-chile aioli and bread and butter pickles, and the Avocado BLT with herb aioli. It also will offer breakfast sandwiches, salads, and crinkle-cut fries. Drinks include cold brew coffee and iced green tea.

Han has spent the last year trying to find a home for this concept and is happy to finally open at Cross Street Market. “We’re excited to be a part of this historic market,” said Han in a press release. “When I was a kid in ‘90s, I used to run between the stalls, when we visited family friends who operated a number of the shops. It’s going to be an adventure watching this market evolve, and I’m sure those same family-friends will pay us a visit to see how the market’s changing.”

Han noted how he loves being a part of the market’s business community. “Our neighbors here have been amazing. We’ve received a lot of support from John (Steve’s Lunch), Henry (Fenwick’s), and Anna (Big Jim’s), among others. We can already tell they look out after each other, as they’ve done for us,” he said.

Han and his family are residents of Locust Point.

Sundays hosted a preview last Saturday and is having its soft opening the remainder of this week and weekend. Its regular schedule starting next week will be Tuesday to Saturday from 8am to 7pm, and Sunday from 8am to 3pm. It will be closed on Mondays.

Future, Former, and Current Tenants at Cross Street Market

Several existing merchants have signed on for an additional two years as the redevelopment begins. These tenants include Steve’s Lunch, Fenwick Choice Meats, Kwon’s Fresh Produce, and The Pretzel Twist. New tenants coming to Cross Street Market in the future include Annapolis-based Ceremony Coffee Roasters; DC-based Cucina Al Volo, which will sell pastas with locally-sourced ingredients; and Sarah Simington, owner of Federal Hill’s Blue Moon Too, who will open a stall selling quirky home goods.

Cross Street Market vendors that recently closed include The Flower Shop, Mondawmin Chicken, and Tian’s Teriyaki. The Flower Shop relocated to 1206 Ridgely St. in Pigtown/Carroll-Camden Industrial Area. All other current vendors remain open including Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood which has a long-term lease and its own beer/wine license.

What’s Next?

The revised plan for the redevelopment of the market allows for the facility and its existing merchants to stay open throughout the phased renovation process, which is expected to accelerate in early 2018 and be fully completed by mid-2019. The middle section of the block-long market will be renovated first, and tenants will occupy stalls closer to Light St. and S. Charles St. during construction. Exterior improvements will also be included in the first phase.

CVP told SouthBMore.com that new renderings will be revealed in the near future.

Cross Street Market is being developed by CVP, with leasing by Cana Development, construction and property management by MacKenzie, and architecture by Brown Craig Turner, all of which are locally based companies.
