Digiball for Digital Harbor Scholarships on April 15th at BMI

DHHS Alliance Release:

COMMUNITY MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR CITY GRADUATES DHHS Alliance Raises Scholarship Funds for Graduating Seniors

Recent events in Baltimore City might make you believe that there is little to no hope for our city or its residents and children. But some South Baltimore residents and staff of Digital Harbor High School have been working for over 7 years to make a difference in graduating seniors’ futures. No High School Graduate should miss out on a college education because they can’t pay for it. Digiball makes its 7th Annual appearance Friday, April 15th at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, 7-11pm. The Honorary Chairperson is James Foster, CEO Zerofox

The Ball, hosted by the DHHS Alliance, is a huge party including a Top Shelf Open Bar, Food Buffet, Live music by The Kelly Bell Band, and other fun activities including a Silent Auction, Photo Booth, and more; all money raised from admissions ($75 per ticket, $50 tax-deductible) goes to college scholarships. The bottom-line on scholarships, according to Jonnie-Kay McLean, Vice President of the Digital Harbor High School Alliance: 99 scholarships with a 97% graduation rate. Much of the scholarship money has been used to “bridge the gap” between grants and loans and the ‘real’ cost of attending college.

Who has won past year’s scholarships? Pivot Zotamou, a 2014 scholarship award winner, won a research fellowship in San Diego. With help from a DHHS Alliance scholarship, Pivot is a pre-med student at Loyola University. In May 2015, The Washington Post called our scholarship winner Darius Craig “The Baltimore teen that will give you hope for the future.” Darius made national headlines when he organized a citywide March for Peace after the Freddie Gray protests. As Digital’s Student Government President, Darius’s leadership and message of unity helped to heal our city in the aftermath of destruction and division. Today, Darius is a freshman at the University of Maryland.

Digital Harbor High School, a Baltimore City Public School, is an innovative, technology focused school located in Federal Hill. DHHS teaches 6 Career & Technology Pathways (CTE) http://www.baltimorecityschools.org/416.
