A directional change is coming to the unit block of W. Randall St. in the South Baltimore neighborhood. This block will switch from a westbound orientation to an eastbound orientation.
The South Baltimore Neighborhood Association (SBNA) was approached by a resident, who was involved in a bad accident turning from W. Randall St. onto S. Hanover St., to see if any changes could be made. SBNA reached out to the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) which came back with three proposals for W. Randall St.
The options considered were:
Option 1: Reversing the unit block of W. Randall St. from S. Hanover St. to S. Charles St. from westbound to eastbound
Option 2: Reversing the direction of Randall St. from Hanover St. to Light St. to eastbound
Option 3: Making no changes
SBNA President Sam Cogen said an email poll was sent out and received more than 80 responses. Every house on Randall St. was also given a flyer about the potential changes.
Cogen said the poll results were pretty split.
Cogen told SouthBMore.com in an email, “The membership and the Board felt as if the change in direction in the one block was the least impactful yet safest option to prevent ongoing car accidents.”
Randall St. will soon be westbound from Light St. to S. Charles St., eastbound from S. Charles St. to S. Hanover St., and westbound from S. Hanover St. to Race St.
