Light Street Cafe Relocating From Federal Hill to 414 Light Street Tower

Light Street Cafe has closed after almost 10 years at 1121 Light St. in Federal Hill, but will be relocating to the 414 Light St. apartment tower in Ottberbein/Federal Hill. Owner Rikki Vaughn told SouthBMore.com he expects the new location to open in the fourth quarter of this year.

Vaughn said Light Street Cafe has outgrown its space in Federal Hill, which only has eight tables. The new location will have first-floor and loft seating inside for 144, as well as seating for 37 customers outside.

Light Street Cafe did not have any outdoor seating at its old location because of the small sidewalk on Light St. Vaughn said the lack of outdoor seating and the limited space inside made the COVID-19 pandemic a challenge. With the lease up at 1121 Light St., Vaughn is not sure what will happen next for the building.

The new Light Street Cafe will have more of a “modern feel” on the inside, noted Vaughn.

Vaughn hopes the new location will bring in Light Street Cafe’s loyal customers, as well as tourists and more office workers. Management team members from 414 Light Street were customers of Light Street Cafe and Vaughn credits one of its residents for the reason he took a look at the retail space in the building.

Vaughn and his business partner Candice Green are also about to open a concept called Let’s Brunch at the former The Dizz at 300 W. 30th St. in Remington. Let’s Brunch will have brunch plates and a signature mimosa menu. Vaughn and Green are looking to franchise this concept.

Vaughn and Green are also opening two new concepts at the new Northwood Commons shopping center across from Morgan State University, as well as a coffee shop in Fell’s Point.

Vaughn and Green additionally own a large portfolio of Dunkin’ Donuts and Checkers locations, as well as daycare centers. They have a total of more than 4,720 employees across the country.

With Light Street Cafe’s new location across from the Harborplace pavilions, which have been shedding tenants and in receivership for several years, Vaughn said he is optimistic about its direction after the recent news of Baltimore-based MCB Real Estate taking over. MCB is Vaughn’s landlord’s at Northwood Commons.

“I know the upcoming management and it will do well,” said Vaughn, who noted he’s excited to see new marketing and a safety plan put in place for the pavilions.
