Codetta Bake Shop and National Aquarium Featured on Good Morning America

Riverside’s Codetta Bake Shop was among the businesses and sites around Baltimore featured on the Good Morning America (GMA) segment called ‘Rise and shine, Maryland!’

Codetta was spotlighted as a new business launched during the COVID-19 pandemic. Codetta co-owner Sumayyah Bilal, who was previously a music teacher, talked about how she ended up starting the business.

“I really just wanted to bake as a stress-relieving activity,” she said. “And then I was like ‘oh we got to sell this, I can’t just eat it all!'”

Codetta was selected by Downtown Partnership of Baltimore as one of five black-owned businesses to receive grant funding to open a storefront in Downtown.

The segment also spotlighted the work done at the National Aquarium to continue caring for the animals during the pandemic. It additionally featured shots of Federal Hill Park, the Inner Harbor, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and M&T Bank Stadium.

Reporter Janai Norman also had a sit-down with Jimmy’s Famous Seafood owners John and Tony Minadakis to talk about The Famous Fund they created to help local businesses, as well as to taste some crab dishes.
