South Baltimore Crime Updates

UPDATE ON AXL COOPER:
Axl Cooper was recently arrested for a fourth degree sex offense and has since been released. He was already on unsupervised probation for a previous assault charge, and a condition of that probation prohibited him from being in Riverside Park. There have also been numerous references to Mr. Cooper having unwanted contact with people around Riverside Park and throughout the Peninsula over the past year. If you see Axl Cooper in or around Riverside Park, please know that there is a court order prohibiting him from being at the Park.

If you see Mr. Cooper at the Park or if he displays any threatening behavior, please ONLY do the following two things: 1) call 911 and let them know that he is in the park or about the behavior, the exact location, and any other relevant information; and 2) ONLY, after you have called 911 AND if you feel safe and from a reasonable distance, take a picture of him while he is in the Park. Email that picture to Byron.conaway@baltimorepolice.org and CC Councilman Eric Costello at: eric.costello@baltimorecity.gov and Delegate Luke Clippinger at luke.clippinger@house.state.md.us and be sure to include your full name and phone number in that email.

Please note that the above approach is being taken after all mental health related and legal options to date have been exhausted. All of the above is ultimately intended to protect the community and ensure that Mr. Cooper gets the help he needs.

The Councilman, Delegate, and Major have been coordinating very closely throughout this process with Rachel Wagner and Jeff Dewberry from Riverside Neighborhood Association. No other information is available at this time, but more clarification on this situation from the five of us is forthcoming soon.
