Silo.5% Closes

Restaurant Silo.5% closed its doors at Silo Point. With Miguel’s also closing last spring, Silo Point is currently without a restaurant. Eric Turner of Silo Point told SouthBMore.com that they are in talks with other groups about the Silo.5% space and that the liquor license, as well as the former Miguel’s license, will stay at the building.

The Miguel’s space was replaced by an office for LINQ Services. One other space is still available at Silo Point where deli Food Life Point was once proposed to open but later fell through. Silo Point is also the home to Privé Salon and LMO.

High Honors for M&T Bank Stadium

Pat yourselves on the back Baltimore fans – M&T Bank Stadium joined Oriole Park at Camden Yards as one of the top venues in professional sports. Stadium Journey, which named Camden Yards as the #1 Stadium Experience in Major League Baseball, has named M&T Bank Stadium #2 in the National Football League. From the article:

Protean Records Moving to New Space

Protean Records will be moving from 925 S. Charles St. to its new location at 838 Leadenhall St. in a 32,000 sq. ft. space it is sharing with Federal Restorations and other tenants at the former Gaines McHale antique store. Protean will vacate the storefront by the end of February and will have its new 4,000 sq. ft. showroom up and running soon after.

Protean’s soon-t0-be former 1,250 sq. ft. space is currently available for lease.

Horsestail Tech Moves to Harbor East 

Horsetail Tech relocated from its office at 201 Key Hwy. in Federal Hill, where it was based from 2011 to 2015, to a new office at 1300 Thames St. in Harbor Point. SouthBMore.com has been informed that Horsetail’s former space has a new tenant, which has yet to be named, adding to many changes to the 200 block of Key Hwy. including the addition of 3 Bean Coffee, Go2 Staffing Solutions, and a new office for State Farm Insurance.

Gundalow Juice Expands

Gundalow Juice, which is based in Morrell Park and owned by South Baltimore’s Dana Sicko, increased its production this year from 4,000 bottles a month to 12,000 bottles. The company has also moved into mass production contracting with a plant in New Jersey.

Gundalow Juice was recently added to the shelves of Graul’s stores in Annapolis and Eddie’s in Roland Park and the team is working on expanding around the country. Gundalow is distributed by Charm City Beverage.

Gundalow has also formed a partnership with Operation Paws for Homes, a locally-based dog rescue organization that saves and treats dogs from high-kill shelters. A portion of Gundalow’s e-commerce sales will benefit the organization.

Kid’s Meal Bill

Maryland Senator Bill Ferguson of District 46, which covers South and Southeast Baltimore, sponsored a bill aimed at Maryland restaurants. The bill is looking to restrict the drinks available with children’s meals. From the bill:

(A) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS SECTION, A 17 RESTAURANT THAT OFFERS A CHILDREN’S MENU OF MEAL OPTIONS OR OFFERS A 18 MEAL THAT IS REPRESENTED AS A CHILD’S MEAL MAY INCLUDE ONLY BOTTLED 19 WATER, LOW–FAT MILK, OR 100% FRUIT JUICE AS A BEVERAGE IN THE PRICE OF THE 20 MENU OPTION OR MEAL. 21 (B) A RESTAURANT MAY OFFER ANY LAWFUL NONALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE TO 22 A MINOR FOR A CHARGE.

The vill would have to be passed by the Maryland House and Senate as well as Governor Hogan to be passed into law. This bill was first reported by Maryland Legislative Watch.
