Penthouses Sold at Silo Point
Silo Point in Locust Point sold its two penthouse condominiums according to Eric Turner of Turner Development. From Baltimore Business Journal:
The model unit of the sky-high properties sold fully furnished for nearly $2.6 million at the end of June. The penthouse had been listed for $2.99 million.
The other penthouse settled for $2.3 million.
The modern two-story penthouses, on the 23rd and 24th floors, feature sweeping views of the Baltimore skyline and harbor, floor to ceiling walls of glass and steel, three en suite bedrooms, a kitchen with Wolf, Sub Zero and Thermador appliances and a soaking tub.
Turner didn’t start actively marketing the penthouses until a majority of the other 226 units at Silo Point sold. He said Turner Development was waiting for the market to get stronger for such high-end properties.
All of the building’s initial 228 units, which first came on the market in 2009, have been sold by the developer. However, previously-owned units are available on the MLS.
Seton Keough to Close
The Archdiocese of Baltimore announced last week that Southwest Baltimore’s Seton Keough High School for girls would close at the end of this school year. The news comes following an 18-month study, which will result in an $86 million investment plan for 19 of the archdioceses 22 schools and the closure of John Paul Regional Catholic School in Woodlawn and St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Hampden. From Catholic Review:
James B. Sellinger, archdiocesan chancellor for education, said the plan is “all about investment.”
According to the archdiocese, Seton Keough’s enrollment, currently at 186, has declined 66 percent over the last 10 years. Seton Keough currently has 47 seniors; in 2007, by comparison, it had 123 graduates.
“No one wants to close schools,” Sellinger said. “We really want to retain our presence everywhere, but, when you think about the outcome of the study and the analysis that was done … there were four schools that were identified for merger or closure.”In a statement in a press release from the archdiocese, Sellinger said the decisions “will allow us to invest dollars in areas that will keep Catholic schools competitive, attractive and successful – such as facilities, technology and tuition assistance.”
Hersh’s Appears on Chopped
Hersh’s chef and co-owner Josh Hershkovitz appeared on Food Network’s Chopped on Tuesday night. The episode included shots inside and outside of Hersh’s Light St. location as Herschkovitz talked about his South Baltimore restaurant and his background as a sculptor. Unfortunately Hershkovitz did not come away the winner.
New Electric Charging Stations at Camden Yards
Camden Yards has added electric vehicle charging stations. From the Maryland Stadium Authority:
To furnish this sustainable transportation support, the Maryland Stadium Authority has teamed with the Electric Vehicle Institute (EVI) and installed eight Level 2 and one Level 3 Electrical Vehicle Support Equipment Charging Stations.
“Camden Yards is not only conveniently located to downtown Baltimore and transportation outlets, it is a safe place to visit at any hour,” noted Maryland Stadium Authority chairman Thomas Kelso. “With 24 hour security and surveillance, our complex permits visitors to leave their vehicles and enjoy the city while they wait.”
Funding for this program was made possible by a grant from Maryland Energy Administration’s Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Rebate (EVSE) Program.
MEA’s Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Program (AFIP) provided funding assistance for the DC Fast Charger at M&T Bank Stadium.
Camden Yards is a multimodal transportation hub, the nexus of rail, bus and interstate highway routes at the gateway to Baltimore. The 5,000+ parking spaces serve downtown and hospital employees, convention center visitors and commuters.
Camden Yards will also add a Baltimore Bike Share station this spring.
Atlantic Forrest Products Relocating from Port Covington
Atlantic Forrest Products is relocating from Port Covington to Tracepoint Atlantic at Sparrows Point. From Baltimore Business Journal:
At Tradepoint in southeast Baltimore County, Atlantic Forest has signed a 15-year lease to takeover two adjoining storage buildings on the site totaling 160,000 square feet and covering 16 acres. The lease also includes 6,500 square feet of office space.
Atlantic Forest will move to the industrial space on Nov. 1, with the office lease beginning in January.
Atlantic Forest, which has been rapidly growing, sold its 12-acre plot of land on Dickman Street at Port Covington to Sagamore Development for $8 million in May 2015, state records show.
Atlantic Forrest Products’ former space will be part of the West End District in Sagamore’s 266-acre Port Covington Master Plan.
Pizza di Joey Catering Event at Our Lady of Good Counsel
Local food truck Pizza di Joey has launched a wedding catering service and is offering a free event for engaged couples at Locust Point’s Our Lady of Good Counsel, where the company also leases space to prep for the food truck. Couples will get to sample a variety of items from its catering menu as well as beer, wine, and other beverages.
Knockout Fitness Hosts Charity Event
Knockout Fitness will be raising money for Bmore Kids next weekend. From a press release:
Saturday, November 12th will be their open house. They will be offering two free classes to the public. Although the classes are free, donations are suggested.
