Changes are underway at Stalking Horse at 26 E. Cross St. in Federal Hill as it transitions to a new concept. Stalking Horse, which will be renamed Whiskey Hill, remains open as the ownership group transforms the first floor. Renovations to the space started six weeks ago.
“We wanted to get people in earlier at our dining space,” Co-owner Chris Reda told SouthBMore.com. “We also wanted to increase our food sales and provide a warmer space to grab dinner.”
Reda described Whiskey Hill as having a “southern feel.” The first floor will have more dining space and lower tables. The bar size has been reduced on the eastern side of the space to add in more seating with tables made from an Eastern Shore barn. The team is warming up the space with new colors and reclaimed wood accents. There will also be a nine-foot American flag made of barn wood.
A new sign and two-tone color scheme will be added to the exterior.
The menu will feature items such as chicken and waffles, shake and bake pork chops, meatloaf burgers, and shoe-string truffle fries. Chef Fran Campanella, a chef at Ropewalk Fenwick Island Restaurant in Delaware, helped create the new offerings.
The bar will have a new focus on bourbon and the signature slushie machines will offer some bourbon-inspired frozen drinks. Reda said the music selection at night will be a combination of urban and country.
The 9,000 sq. ft. building has two additional floors.
The grand opening for Whiskey Hill is on November 9th.
Part of the team at Whiskey Hill also has ownership in Ropewalk Tavern in Federal Hill, which recently celebrated its 21st anniversary. The team also has ownership in Ropewalk Fenwick Island Restaurant and Ropewalk Restaurant Ocean City, both of which opened in recent years.. The team is also opening an additional location next March in Chincoteague Island, VA. Reda said the beach locations have done “extremely well.”
