The Alliance Restaurant Group added to its portfolio last month by purchasing Sliders Bar & Grille at 504 Washington Blvd. in Ridgely’s Delight. The 4,300 sq. ft. sports bar, which is a popular pregame spot for Baltimore Orioles games, has been open across the street from Oriole Park at Camden Yards for almost 30 years. It goes by the tagline “771 feet away from home plate.”
The Sliders business is now owned by Matthew Stewart. The real estate is owned by Alliance Restaurant Group, which owns other restaurants in Canton and Federal Hill including Blue Agave Mexican Food and Nola Seafood & Spirits.
The upswing of the Baltimore Orioles, which finished above .500 for the first time in six years this season, was a big reason Alliance Restaurant Group was interested in the opportunity.
“I’m very confident in the trajectory of the team. I expect more people to be attending games,” said Matthew Lasinski, owner of Alliance Restaurant Group. “It’s a great space and a great opportunity. ”
Lasinski is also hoping the renovated Baltimore Arena, which will reopen in February, and the return of events to the Baltimore Convention Center will have Sliders “primed for success.”
Sliders remains open, but Alliance Restaurant Group will be undertaking renovations to update the interior and exterior of the building and “lighten and brighten up the space” by making modifications to bring in more natural light. Lasinski said renovations will pick up in the winter when the NFL season ends. There could possibly be a few days Sliders is closed during these renovations.
Lasinski said the menu will still have a focus on burgers and wings, but they plan on “upgrading the offerings” and making it more of a “food destination.”
“We want people to come in when there are no events,” he added.
Sliders plans on adding pre-made lunches for employees and students at University of Maryland, Baltimore and University of Maryland Medical Center.
Sliders currently opens at 2pm when the Baltimore Orioles have a game and 4pm on other days. Lasinski said they are still figuring what the hours will be moving forward, but noted “they will be built on consistency.”
