Vegan juice and smoothie shop Juice Lab has opened at 40 S. Carrollton Ave. in Hollins Market. The retail space, which is at the corner of Hollins St. and S. Carrollton Ave., was previously a boutique and political office.
Juice Lab is owned by Hollins Market resident Robert “J.R.” Lee and Shani Quintana, who also own a commercial construction company together. Quintana was a fan of the other juice shops in Canton and Federal Hill and wanted to bring those same offerings to Hollins Market.
The duo took on a renovation of the space and added concrete floors, concrete counters, a green wall, wood tables, and a wood counter.
Juice Lab’s cold-pressed juice options include carrot, apple, and ginger turmeric; kale, spinach, parsley, cucumber, and apple lemon ginger; charcoal lemonade; orange, pineapple, grapefruit, and carrot; and watermelon basil.
Juice Lab also offers a juice cleanse program.
Smoothies include the Sowebo Shake with strawberry pineapple, orange and chia seeds; the Arlington Avalanche with spinach, avocado, banana, raw honey, flax seed, Medjool dates, and oat milk; the Hollins Hustle with banana, cold brew coffee, cacao powder, Medjool dates, and seals; and the Berry B&O with mixed berries, oat milk, flax seed, and vanilla vegan protein powder.
Smoothie bowls include add-ons such as sunflower seeds, almonds, coconut, chia seeds, granola, pumpkin seeds, blueberries, strawberries, and bananas.
Juice Lab also offers toasts such as its Hummus toast, Taco Toast, Feta Cucumber, and Protein Toast. It also sells granola bars.
Lee and Quintana will add a breakfast menu in the near future with items such as bagels with vegan cream cheese, and bok choy noodles.
Juice Lab is currently open from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday to Sunday. Lee said they hope to start opening at 730am in the near future as they bring on additional staff.
Lee said they are excited to bring a healthy option to the neighborhood and to teach people more about nutrition and immunity boosting.
“Eat food as your medicine, if not your medicine will become your food,” said Lee.
Lee is happy to bring a new dining option to the neighborhood. He wants to see more storefronts filled in the neighborhood and more stalls occupied at Hollins Market to help bring more people to the area.
Lee is active in helping the community as he’s currently the Vice President and Public Safety Committee Chair of Southwest Partnership. He is also the former president of the Hollins Roundhouse Neighborhood Association.
