AVAM Postpones Flicks on the Hill and July 4th Pet Parade

American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) announced today that its popular summer events Flicks on the Hill and July 4th Pet Parade will not take place this year. This is the second year in a row the events have been cancelled, but AVAM says the events will be back in 2022.

In a press release, AVAM said: “The decision was made out of continuing concern for the optimal wellbeing of our community and staff, due to the large crowds the events attract. The move also supports Baltimore City’s decision to withhold the required permits for outdoor gatherings such as these.”

“We are so sorry to disappoint Flicks summer movie fans and Pet Parade lovers alike,” said AVAM Founder and Director Rebecca Hoffberger in a press release. “All the costumed animals and their adoring pet owners form an interspecies feast for the eye, and our Flicks audience is harmonious Baltimore at its best—joined as one community to watch movies under the stars and pig out on fresh popcorn. We can’t wait to resume both cherished events next summer, 2022.”

Flicks on the Hill is a free movie series that has been a summer tradition in South Baltimore for many years. For each showing, AVAM drops down a large movie screen on one of its buildings that can be viewed from eastern hill of Federal Hill Park.

The July 4th Pet Parade traditionally takes place in an AVAM courtyard on the morning of Independence Day.
