Update on Ice Queens Snowball Shopin Locust Point (1648 E Fort Ave)

BACKGROUND

There has been repeated and targeted harassment of the Ice Queens Snowball Shop, their staff, and their customers, some of which has been racially charged. The behavior is just disgusting and the people responsible should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. A non-comprehensive list of incidents to date include the following, among others:

• Grown man blowing cigarette smoke in a young lady’s face.

• Several neighbors call police on the Black Girls Bicycle, who ride once per week as a group, and patronized Ice Queens, for no apparent reason.

• Several facebook posts by one neighbor re: double parking, yet no complaints about the same for City Limits (which also happens to be a model neighborhood small business).

• Signs are ripped off the exterior wall on Andre St, on multiple occasions.

• Car drives eastbound on E Fort Ave, yells racial slurs at customers eating across the street, then throws coffee mug.

NEXT STEPS

Senate President Ferguson, Delegates Clippinger, Lierman, and Lewis, Major Conaway from the Southern District, and myself have all been in constant contact the past few days regarding this issue. Major Conway, Ross Seidman (from Senator Ferguson’s Office), and I just visited again today. Moving forward, there will be an increased police presence patrolling the area and police officers will be stopping in to say hello multiple times per day (known as business checks). We will all continue to support Ice Queens.

Like all of us above, please CONTINUE to support Ice Queens Snowball Shop. Stop by and say hello to the owners, Dasia and Monique. The young ladies who work there with them are their family members, they are awesome, and they run a great small business. They deserve our support. Who doesn’t want a snowball when it’s 95 degrees in Baltimore? Exactly.
