Outdoor Seating Sidewalk Being Added to Cross Street Market

The Cross Street Market is getting a more permanent outdoor seating area as developer Caves Valley Partners (CVP) has started construction on a new sidewalk along the south side of the market this week. The market had a temporary outdoor seating area with tables and planters on top of the street in recent months.

“The plan all along has been to build a sidewalk for the outdoor seating and we decided to proceed now, rather than next spring,” said CVP Partner Arsh Mirmiran. “The seating area will be protected by the same large planters that we had put in on a temporary basis. Those planters will have a large amount of stone in them, so they’ll be protective, and we are also looking at possibly adding a railing around the perimeter.”

The outdoor seating area occupies a middle section of the block-long, 31,800 sq. ft. market that runs from Light St. to S. Charles St. Just east of the outdoor seating area is another protected area with planters where customers will be able to order from the late-night windows of Royal Farms and the under-construction Pizza di Joey.

The Cross Street Market was previously surrounded on the north and south sides by on-street parking. While many of on-street parking spaces still remain around the market, spaces were removed for the outdoor seating and the late-night ordering area. A smaller sidewalk was also added to the northwest corner of the market. A walk-up Chase ATM was also added to the north side of the market. The existing sidewalks on the Light St. and S. Charles St. entrances of Cross Street Market were redone in recent months and were expanded to now bend around the corners of the building.

CVP partnered with the Parking Authority of Baltimore City on new signage to direct customers to the West Street Garage which is a half a block from the market.

CVP and its contractor Mackenzie began construction on the $8.5-million redevelopment of Cross Street Market in April 2018. The market fully closed in January of this year and reopened in May. Cross Street Market now has 12 vendors open with Annoula’s Kitchen, Cans Filling Station, Ceremony Coffee, Fenwick’s Choice Meats, Gangster Vegan, Ono Poké, Phubs, Rice Crook, Royal Farms Chicken, Steve’s Lunch, Taco Love Grill, and The Sweet Shoppe. Burger Bar, Old Line Cocktail & Wine Bar, Pizza Di Joey, and Sobeachy are currently under construction. Rooster + Hen, which will open in Fall 2019, and a seafood restaurant and fresh seafood stall from the Atlas Restaurant, which will open in Spring 2020, are planned for the market.

Cross Street Market will have 22 total vendors. CVP and its leasing team of CANAdev are still looking to finalize the final four stalls. One stall has a signed lease, one stall has a signed letter of intent, and two are still available.
