Demolition began last week at the former Ole Federal Hill Liquors at 1238 Light St. to make way for a new apartment building. Ole Federal Hill Liquors relocated to 1232 Light St. in 2014.
The property, which also includes an adjacent parking lot, will become the home of a new four-story apartment building with a first-floor commercial space. The building will include 21 “efficiency” apartment units and 14 off-street parking spaces within the building. The site is adjacent to Brewer’s Cask and a rowhome on Light St. The rear of the site faces Ostend St. and Marshall St.
Residents of the building will not be eligible for Area 30 Residential Parking Permits.
The plan was approved by the Baltimore City Board of Municipal Zoning Appeals (BMZA) in 2016 and developer Walid Hajj of WRH Property Holdings LLC worked with the South Baltimore Neighborhood Association (SBNA) and Federal Hill South Neighborhood Association (FHSNA) during the planning of the project.
