BricknFire Pizza
Owner Megan Lanasa invited SouthBMore.com to her first brick-and-mortar location of BricknFire, which opened this month at the Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards. Her team has run its mobile pizza business at events and farmers’ markets over the past three years and now have a fast-casual storefront in Downtown Baltimore near Camden Yards and Ridgely’s Delight after winning Marriott’s Canvas competition.
There are a lot of new pizza restaurants and fast-casual concepts out there, but BricknFire is certainly a standout. We tried the foodie pizza, the Neapolitan-style pizza that cooks in less than two minutes. It was topped with prosciutto, brussel sprouts, crushed walnut, house-blend cheese, and cranberry goat cheese over an oil and vinegar wash. The crust was soft but with the right crisp (and with burn marks which BricknFire is very proud of) and the toppings were an outstanding combination of fresh flavors.
We also sampled the homemade chicken salad on challah bread from The Breadery (Lanasa’s parents bakery), the muffuletta on The Breadery’s foccacia, and the sweet and salty salad. The breads were just right and all the plates were delicious.
Little Havana Burger
On Mondays Little Havana offers $4 burgers, making it one of the best deals around. I went with a group and we each built a burger using the toppings of our choice and they all were very good. Whether its Monday or any other day of the week, I’ll be ordering another one of Havana’s burgers and probably having it with one of their signature mojito.
Pulled Chicken Royal Farms
If you are from Maryland, you know that Royal Farms is arguably the gold standard for fried chicken. Seeing commercials for its new Hand Pulled World Famous Chicken Sandwiches, I had to try one out while checking out the renovation at its Key Hwy. location. The hand-pulled fried chicken came with an Old Bay sauce and it was as good as you’d imagine (…and the store’s improvements look good.)
Steak Pizza HomeSlyce
HomeSlyce, winner of SouthBMore’s Best Pizza, has a great lineup of pizzas that just got even better. Its new Steak Pizza features steak, cheese, jalapenos, and spices topped with its Yummy Sauce (which you get with HomeSlyce’s french fries). It is definitely added to my rotation of favorites at HomeSlyce.
Pop Tacos
Pop Tacos opened its new location on Cross Street and it’s the same great food, plus new items, with more space and longer hours. I have always been a big fan of its tacos and burritos and am really happy to have them back after a brief hiatus as they prepared the new location.
I look forward to diving into the new Korean menu and am excited they will be open during dinner hours so I can grab some on the way to an O’s game.
