WoodKnott Coming to Federal Hill 

South Baltimore resident Eric Knott and business partner Meagan Kelly are opening WoodKnott at 912 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill at the former Federal Restorations which recently relocated to 838 Leadenhall St. Knott has been a contractor since 2012 and will now focus on creating custom furniture and cabinets that will be sold at the new store.

The 1,900 sq. ft. space will feature a first floor showroom, where WoodKnott will keep about 10 pieces that will serve as an illustration of Knott’s work, and a workshop in the basement. The owners are currently undertaking a mostly cosmetic renovation of the space with an opening date targeted for November.

Knott told SouthBMore.com the pieces will be “rowhome-centric” to help with the space limitations of city living and prices would be affordable and comparable to many other furniture stores.

Lakeside Title Company Opens in Federal Hill 

Lakeside Title Company opened an office at 1200 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill. The space was formerly the home of a Signature Title and a RE/MAX office before that.

Lakeside started in 1994 has 14 locations between Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The Well Opens in Federal Hill 

Jennifer Poulin, formerly a team member at Federal Hill Massage & Wellness Center which closed in August, recently opened The Well Community Acupuncture and Wellness at 42 E. Cross St. within Federal Hill Main Street’s building. The Well offers community acupuncture, one-on-one acupuncture, custom message therapy, and shiatsu.

Visit Baltimore Hires News CEO

Visit Baltimore hired Al Hutchison as its new president and CEO:

Hutchinson brings more than 24 years of experience in the hospitality and destination marketing industry to Baltimore, most recently serving as president and CEO of Visit Mobile, where he was recognized as the 2016 Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance’s ‘Tourism Promoter of the Year.’ Under Hutchinson’s leadership, Visit Mobile launched a new brand campaign, ‘Born to Celebrate;’ saw record visitor attendance; a large increase in visitor inquiries; and an increase in the city’s hotel occupancy rate and revenue collection.

As president and CEO of Visit Baltimore, Hutchinson will be responsible for leading the growth of the convention and tourism industry in Baltimore, overseeing the day-to-day management of all sales and marketing programs and serving as the hospitality industry’s liaison to the business, civic and local community, while demonstrating the impact of tourism on the City and State.

Prior to joining Visit Mobile, Hutchinson served as the vice president of convention sales and services at the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau where, for more than 11 years, he led the convention sales and service team, directed the advertising agency and worked closely with community leaders, industry decision makers, elected officials and tourism  partners

Maryland Stadium Authority Participates in Cleanup 

The Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) had a volunteer day last Wednesday at Solo Gibbs Park in Sharp-Leadenhall, adjacent to the Camden Yards Sport Complex. According to Jan Hardesty of the MSA, its team spent the day weeding, watering, planting, and cleaning the park as part of a Governor Hogan’s initiative.

Alison Eastwood’s New Film “Dog Walker” Rooted in Federal Hill

Jeff and Sarah Rothschild live in Federal Hill with their two kids. They met in 2007 when Jeff needed a new walker for his Federal Hill-based dog walking business, Luv My Pet, and hired Sarah. They were both coming out of relationships. At the time, Sarah was in graduate school at Towson University for professional writing.

Sarah, who focuses on comedy screenwriting, found a lot of natural comedy in dog walking and all the crazy things that can happen on the job. She would keep a notebook with her and jot down all the funny circumstances she encountered.

By 2010, her and Jeff were in a relationship and she completed her first screenplay Dog Walker, a romantic comedy based “very loosely” on their lives according to Sarah. She submitted the script in the Academy Nicholl screenwriting competition and made it to the final 200 out of thousands of submissions. This led to her signing with Verve Talent and Literary Agency.

Dog Walker was purchased in 2012 by ABC Family for a television movie, but when the option ran out to produce the movie, it was returned to Sarah. The script however was recently purchased by Clint Eastwood’s daughter Allison Eastwood, who will be producing an independent film alongside Stefanie Epstein. The two are currently fundraising and filming is expected to begin next year in Atlanta.

“I’m super excited,” Sarah told SouthBMore.com. “It’s been in the works for a long time, and Hollywood can move at a slow pace, but I’m really happy it is moving forward with Allison.”

While she won’t be directly involved with production, Sarah is hoping to watch some of the filming and noted that she can’t wait to see her script come to life on the big screen.

Though the film will be shot in Atlanta, Sarah told SouthBMore.com that there will be some references to Baltimore that locals will probably pick up on.

Sarah, now a full-time writer, has written many scripts. She hopes to sell more of them and see more in production as she gains more experience and notoriety in the film industry.

Since completing Dog Walker, Sarah has been hired by Disney and Universal, and sold a couple other scripts in between. She also has some current projects in motion that she can’t talk about quite yet. While continuing to live in Baltimore, Sarah often has calls and pitches with companies in Los Angeles and has visited the West Coast city several times this year.

Sarah has retired from dog walking, but Jeff and Luv My Pet’s 13 team members keep busy walking 140 dogs a day around Baltimore.

Order & Chaos Coffee Opens on Key Highway

Order & Chaos Coffee has opened in a 1,100 sq. ft. space at 1410 Key Hwy. in Federal Hill. The new shop is headed up by the team at Planit, which recently relocated from downtown to a new 30,000 sq. ft. office in the same 97,000 sq. ft. complex. This building, which dates back to 1919, was the former home of Syrup KING Molasses.

Order & Chaos features concrete floors and original architectural elements, and is decorated with concept sketches from Planit. The space has a dining room designed like a work space with large and small tables and dry erase boards on the wall, as well as free WiFi. The space also has floor-to-ceiling interior glass walls that provide customers with a transparent view inside the agency’s collaborative work environment. Planit also plans to frequently survey customers for useful consumer insights that may be incorporated into strategic campaigns for its clients.

Order & Chaos Coffee will serve gourmet hot and cold brew coffees, espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, teas and several varieties of smoothies. Pfefferkorn, a local family-operated roasting company located in Locust Point and that has been supplying Baltimore with coffee since 1900, was selected to develop custom coffee blends exclusive to the coffee shop.

Food at Order & Chaos will be highlighted by its Walking Waffles, a European-style Liége waffle flavored with caramelized sugar, for those on the go. The shop will also sell pastries, cookies, and to-go salads and deli sandwiches.

“Order & Chaos lives as an actual extension of our agency and we see a real opportunity to connect with the neighborhood and literally provide a glimpse into our creative world,” said Ed Callahan, co-founder and creative strategist at Planit, in a press release. “It also gives us the opportunity to learn more about consumers, test concepts and ideas and receive public opinions. Advertising is a stimulating industry and we hope guests will stop by to find out what we’re up to behind the glass walls.”

Matt Doud, president and co-founder of Planit, said at a media gathering last week that they look forward to being a part of the neighborhood, and that they hope to open more locations in the future.

Order & Chaos Coffee currently staffs 11 employees with plans to expand in the future. Ryan Herzig is the general manager and most recently served as general manager of Roti Mediterranean Grill in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, he was area supervisor for Venti Tre Modern Italian. Herzig said Order & Chaos will use as many local products as possible.

Order & Chaos is open Monday through Friday from 630am to 4pm and Saturdays and Sundays form 730am to 3pm.

Along with Planit and Order & Chaos, Home on the Harbor has relocated within the complex to a new 9,000 sq. ft. store and Race Pace Bicycles has relocated within the complex to a new 12,000 sq. ft. store. The complex is also the home of Charm City Networks, Mark Thomas Architects, EnerNOC, O’Connor & Mooney Realtors, and several smaller companies.
