Das Bier Haus to Open Its New Second-Floor Dining Room This Saturday

After a couple years of planning, construction, and permitting, Das Bier Haus will open its second-level dining and bar room this Saturday. The new space will approximately double the size of the South Baltimore German restaurant and increase its capacity by 90.

Das Bier Haus owner Nate McKinney told SouthBMore.com that the new level will give room for overflow diners and provide extra space for social sports participants, catering, and private events. The second floor will continue the theme of the first floor with communal and hightop tables, exposed brick, a bar, and German decor. It also has additional bathrooms. The new bar is made from bricks that were once part of the building.

The second floor will also have a new sound system, 12 televisions, and a projector screen making it an ideal place to watch college and NFL football along with all other sports, according to McKinney. He also said that Das Bier Haus will not have any official team fan clubs, but should be able to accommodate a television for almost any fan of a team who shows up. Das Bier Haus also has many televisions on the first floor.Das Bier Haus was recently approved by the Baltimore City Board of Liquor License Commissioners (BLLC) to expand its liquor license into the second floor.

The restaurant has hired several new staff members to cover the new space.

Das Bier Haus will open its new second level at 4pm on Saturday. Former Ravens standout tight ends Dennis Pitta and Todd Heap will stop by from 8pm to 10pm to help celebrate.

McKinney is also the owner of Fornicolli’s which opened in June next door to Das Bier Haus. He said that the Italian carryout restaurant will begin online ordering and delivery this weekend. Fornicolli’s recently hired a staff of drivers.

Former business partner Scott Bauer recently left Das Bier Haus to open Das Bierhalle at the former The Charred Rib at The Barn in Parkville. Das Bierhalle will open next Tuesday. McKinney said that there has not been too much change at Das Bier Haus during the transition and that he wishes all the best for Bauer and the team at Das Bierhalle.

Weekend Events Around Baltimore

This Weekend Events Around Baltimore is sponsored by the Locust Point Festival:

The Locust Point Festival, hosted by the Locust Point Civic Association, will be held Saturday, September 8th from 11AM to 6PM in Latrobe Park. The festival was started in the 1970’s as a fundraising effort to block I-95 from being constructed through Locust Point. Today, the proceeds raised help fund projects around the Locust Point community.

This year’s event is sponsored by Domino Sugar, Dr. Lamb, DDS, and Bozutto. Beer is courtesy of Chesapeake Beverage and Diamondback Brewery- our local LP Brewery!  Volunteers from the Locust Point community will be on hand serving up other favorite “adult” beverages such as orange and watermelon crushes as well as sangria.

The festival will have 40 vendors set up around the park including food stands operated by local business from throughout the community. In addition, there will be games such as the ever popular money wheel! Francis Scott Key Elementary/Middle School will be sponsoring a kid’s zone with plenty of activities to keep the kiddos busy!

Throughout the event, there will be feature band performances by Rickshaw Lizard, The Unsung Heros, The Unofficial, Automatic Slim and The Baltimore Funk Brigade.  To start the day’s events, a special treat this year, is the Star Spangled Banner performed by musicians from Fort McHenry!

Keeping up with traditions, we will have khrusciki cookies for sale along with other Locust Point treats!
