Before and After Overhead Maps of South Baltimore Development

Below is a look at some before and after shots of South Baltimore redevelopment projects that have been in process or completed over the last few years using the overhead shots from Apple Maps as the before shots and the overhead shots from Google Maps for the after shots.

To note, several developments  have broke ground – and are much further along – since Google Maps made an update at some point over the last six months.

Here is a rundown of all real developments in South Baltimore. And, here are SouthBMore.com’s on-the-ground photo tours of all of the redevelopment in the area:

• Otterbein, Federal Hill, and Sharp-Leadenhall
• Locust Point and Riverside

West Port Covington 

Updates include the addition of City Garage and West Covington Park, and the clearing of the former Atlantic Forest, which relocated to Tradepoint Atlantic. Atlantic’s former 43,260 sq. ft. building is now the home of workforce development non-profits. A new bike bath is currently under construction in the area that will connect W. McComas St. to W. Dickman St.

Sagamore Spirit Distillery – Port Covington 

Sagamore Spirit Distillery opened in April and Rye Street Tavern at Sagamore Spirit opened in September. Improvements continue to East Waterfront Park surrounding Sagamore Spirit.

2 East Wells – South Baltimore Neighborhood 

2 East Wells opened in 2015 and features 153 apartments, a 260-car parking garage, and 5,864 sq. ft. of ground floor retail. Minnow opened in May in a 3,723 sq. ft. space and Baltimore Soup Company is finishing up construction on a restaurant in the other 2,141 sq. ft. space.

Heath Street Lofts – South Baltimore Neighborhood 

Heath Street Lofts opened its 59 apartments in the former Raffel building in 2015.

The Enclave – Federal Hill 

The Enclave completed construction last year on 13 new townhomes.

Stadium Square – Sharp-Leadenhall/South Baltimore Neighborhood 

Stadium Square is a $275-million redevelopment on three blocks of South Baltimore and Sharp-Leadenhall located between Cross St. on the north, Race St. on the east, Leadenhall St. on the west, and both sides of Ostend St. to the south. It is under construction and will have approximately 590 apartments, 1,800 parking spaces, 450,000 sq. ft. of office space, and 75,000 sq. ft. of retail. Office building 145 W. Ostend and apartment building Hanover Cross Street were recently completed.

Banner Hill – Otterbein 

Construction is nearing completion on Banner Hill, a new 340-unit apartment building replacing the University Specialty Hospital by the University of Maryland Medical Center.

414 Light Street – Otterbein/Inner Harbor 

414 Light Street is currently under construction. The 44-story building will have 394 apartments and 12,300 sq. ft. of ground floor retail.

1201 South Charles – Federal Hill

1201 South Charles Street in Federal Hill was completed in 2015. It includes 16 two-bedroom apartments and a 1,300 sq. ft. &pizza.

Federal Place 2 – Federal Hill 

Federal Place was finalized this year after the completion of 23 new towhomes. Phase One began in the mid-2000s and included 26 townhomes.

Anthem House – Locust Point 

The nine-story Anthem House is mostly finished and includes 292 apartments, 449 parking spaces, and 20,000 sq. ft. of ground floor retail. The retail will include a 3,000 sq. ft. fitness studio for The Bar Method, a 2,000 sq. ft. coffee and craft beer restaurant named Amber, and a 2,310 sq. ft. Korean fried chicken restaurant called JAZZ+SOJU. More retail tenants will be announced in the future.

McHenry Row – Locust Point 

Phase II of McHenry Row construction is currently in process, including the 224-unit Porter Street Apartments, which is nearing completion. Work recently began on a 126-room Marriott hotel and a 60,000 sq. ft. office building.

Key’s Overlook – Locust Point 

Key’s Overlook was completed earlier this year. It brought 53 new towhomes to Locust Point surrounding Silo Point.

Alta 47 – Locust Point 

Alta 47 broke ground earlier this year and the first block of homes has now been completed. The development will bring a total of 47 new townhomes to the former site of Perishable Deliveries Inc. (PDI).

Banner Field – Locust Point 

Banner Field was constructed at Latrobe Park in 2014. It was funded by Under Armour.

613 Portland St. – Ridgely’s Delight 

613 Portland St. was completed in 2015 and includes 30 luxury apartments and a 2,000 sq. ft. retail space which is occupied by Wild Bills.

Camden Crossing – Pigtown 

First announced in 1999, Pigtown’s Camden Crossing was completed last year. The community features 150 new townhomes.

Greyhound Bus Station and Horseshoe Casino Baltimore – Carroll-Camden Industrial Area 

A new Greyhound Bus Station at 2110 Haines St.,  just south of Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, was completed in 2016. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore opened in 2014. A Top Golf has been proposed for Lot J and the current site of BARCS.
